How dangerous is it really to have a 1 man corp with a small or medium tower in a .3 system that hardly gets traffic? The POS will have the necessary defenses, be for moon mining, and be as far out of the way as possible?
Be blunt.

There are many dangers with low sec PoS anchoring. First of all expect to spend anchoring or onlining for about 2-3 hours. You have no shield until the control tower is online. Weapon batteries must be placed outside the shield, so expect to be out there in your hauler while those are being anchored and put online. I hope you have a cloaking device. At any time someone can come up and start firing on your modules or control tower while you are anchoring or onlining it. Your modules can be scooped up if the control tower is destroyed. You can only anchor or online one object at a time. Hauling starting fuel to the Tower between anchoring and onlining it can be very time consuming and dangerous. You cant online it without fuel in it. Start with just a few hours of fuel when onlining it, then take 2 weeks worth of fuel to it once everything is up and running. Its going to be tough doing it all by yourself, but it can be done with alot of care and dedication.. The fuel will be costly, be prepared for that. No fuel means no shield means all modules can be attacked and destroyed easily.

Nothing may happen for months or someone might attack it on day two. It really depends on if someone is interested in it or not. Generally they will only do so for two reasons: - They want the moon for either the minerals on it or simply the free location if others are taken. - They want to ransom you or take the fittings.

Consider what you are anchoring as well, for example Lab`s in low sec can make for a tempting target as well. 1 they may contain expensive bpo`s that would be worth a fleet attacking and 2 the labs themselves can fetch a nice price. personally i`d start from a postion of a breakeven point, work out how long your tower would have to be up and running for you to make your cash back. Then calculate the risk-effort-reward from that point. 1 man towers are doable, but don`t under esstimate the ammount of time and isk you have to invest into them.

Things to consider 1) Just how far off a major route or hub you are. 2) How active local is 3) Are you in someones backyard, ask around are the multiple towers by the same corp or alliance/are their multiple members of the same corp/alliance in local regularly 4) How rare the moon mineral is, if its outside the common gases someone probably already has their eye on it. ------------------------------------------ Sig removed as it lacks EVE-related content. Don't get all scared, though. There are two aspects of your question: anchoring the tower and running the tower in lowsec. In contrast to the first response, I would say that anchoring a tower is a relatively safe process. Your tower is vulnerable only when it is being anchored. During that time it might be a good idea to log off, especially if you are the only person in the system. If you do not attract attention with your own persona, the only way to detect a new tower in the system is for someone to know all the towers and their positions by heart. Anchoring of a medium takes no longer than half an hour.
After you start onlining the tower, you're good. Even if someone starts hitting it, it will still light up. Unless the attackers manage to bring a decent fleet in that short period of time, which is unlikely.
As for running the tower, the biggest issue is probably hauling the fuel. Make careful calculations here. The rest is a game of chance. My advice is: start small and see what happens.

There is no need for you to be outside the force field while anchoring your defences. You will need to go out there to add ammo, but you can anchor them from inside. It takes a while, and is tricky to get it neat (yes, aesthetics are important ), but I normally launch everything at the tower and anchor them one by one.

Once it is anchored tho, the risk is that some dread fleet might want to use it for target practice, with the bonus of getting the moon / items inside the now dead pos shield once the tower explodes. --------------------------

Make sure you have your POS packed with stront. That way if they do choose to pound your POS down into the ground, you at least have a chance to get it back up and running. |

If you are mining a valuable mineral you will be forcibly evicted by a dread or BS fleet. Period full stop. These days moon mining is all the rage for the large alliances. A pos with labs will most likely be left alone.

As discussed above, getting a good moon also tends to lead to the fact that you will also need a few more since you want to make your reactions from start to finish so you are competative in the market otherwise your will be driven out by undercuts etc. As far as others taking your POS goes, I have had it happen before and have now developed an option for people like yourself and I which has gotten some great responses:
