However it does resemble heavily, japanese animation/anime/magna/hentia (however you spell it ) So someone saying it is anime is spot on. It doesn't matter if the artist was japanese and or making an anime or a single pic, its still clearly an anime style character,not traditional,ancient japanese artwork.
Now theres nothing wrong with tentacle ****. Seriously what guy here would pass up the chance to penetrate a girl every possible way all at once? Of course suggesting that all anime is tentacle **** is to suggest that all movies are gangbang,big booty,busty dwarf ****. Sure there might be some kind of ****o out there for people into that kinda stuff but it in no way means everyone's favorite movies are now ****o.
The only real problem with anime is when you try to stuff it into eve. I <3 me some Ghost in the SHell,Robotech/Macross and maybe 1 other series but the artwork isnt compatible with eve. Now if you want ultrarealistic ,school uniform wearing, Japanese chicks with big racks that fit into the established style of eve artwork, im down with that. I wouldn't mind buying me a slave in game to dress her up like that and have her follow me around just for laughs and what not 
Then again a friend of mine says theres an industrial ship that if you paint it green you got a zentradi pickle warship. just as long as theres no minmei on any soundtrack updates..

Manga-style artwork is perfectly fine... in other games. There are plenty of MMOs with the cute style of animation and character proportions which that picture represents, and if you want that in an avatar, you should play one of those games.
EVE is much more techno-punk at its core. When Ambulation comes out, there are going to be many ways to customize the way your character looks, which will no doubt include the ability to have long hair or "normal" clothing... not just the rubber space suits and uniforms and sci-fi esque clothing we see most characters sporting now.
But I highly doubt, and would not endorse, characters that have the "kawaii desu ne" weeaboo anime feel in EVE.

Your complaints about anime, in particular, strike me as having about as much logic as saying movies are bad because Pirates exists.
(No, I haven't seen it, yes, they played it at my university and charged $1 for it, but I couldn't be arsed to go... and the media response was hilarious. Unfortunately, KDKA fixed their article so it no longer claimed that 3000 students saw the movie over the course of two showings in a theater that fits 500 people, so I can't show you that item.)
Anyway, if you discount the **** that inevitably shows up in any medium, they're at least as good as other comparable visual media. (Frankly, each has its own set of ridiculosities.)
factcheck edit: Rereading the article, they did in fact have three screenings. (I was surprised there were only two...) However, only two of them were sold out. Also, that auditorium has a capacity which is actually *less* than 500 people.

It is rare for people to consider animation to be real art. Therefore the idea that someone is going to get uppity about people calling his picture anime/manga is kinda funny. To me, the flintstones is a cartoon,not art. You could suggest that each cell is artwork but i wouldnt see it as art. So its questionable to consider an anime pic as "art"and act semi defensive about it being called anime.
Had the pic been something I would recognize as being traditional Japanese artwork then I wouldn't have any problems with the op suggesting his anime is art. Its like comparing a cell of Fred Flintstone with the Mona Lisa, as much as i don't care about that peice of art and never understood the reason why so many love it. The amount of detail and effort and skill needed to make the 2 examples is extremely different. You can give a kid a crayon and a peice of paper and he will produce something rather close to Fred but give the same kid some paint and a canvas and your going to be disapointed in his rendition of the mona lisa.

Anyone can rap if they spent a whopping 2 hours. you could make millions if you add enough foul language,talk of dirtywomen,drugs and lie about how many times youve been shot. None of those fools are ever going to sit down and write a peice of music that requires an orchestra covering the different roles of various instruments. One is "art" while the other is a "commercial product".
Don't get me wrong, like i said before I <3 Ghost in the SHell and i think it has better artwork then the majority of anime out there but im not going to identify it as art but animation(even if its not actually animated such as a sketch).
Now as for me being a wiseass,you will never know if thats all it was or if I'm bloody serious.

I'm pretty sure some thirteen-year-olds could draw anime. Depending on which one you pick, it's possible a lot of them could. I would also believe some could write the story for one. (These are not necessarily the same ones because we are not all identically talented.) However, I do not think either of them would still be thirteen when they got done if they only did it in math class, and I bet they'd fail math class in the meantime if they tried.
Additionally, with my (admittedly somewhat limited) experience with artists, I bet they'd finish and decide the first part sucked (due to artistic styles developing) and want to start over again.
gah... precision edit: some thirteen-year-olds could draw some animes, depending on the kid and the particular style you chose. Some of them are very flat, whereas others are not.

Eve: no place for either. They've said they're going for a photorealistic look in ambulation, so the answer to the OP's question is "no".

Like others here I like anime and manga; a 20+ year fan, 28+ years if I count the years I grew up watching shows like Robotech and Starblazers in the late 70's early 80's repsectively. I have also been a fan of live action sci-fi shows for just as long; the numerous Star Trek incarnations, Stargate SG-1 (only w/ Richard Dean Anderson), Dr. Who, etc. Each have their own unique appeal. However, EvE is in its own niche and should not stray from that otherwise it would lessen the uniqueness that makes EvE so attractive to so many of us.
Personally, if they EVER implemented japanese style comic art into EvE character designs I'd quit as it would be ridiculously out of place. I suppose this is why I hate cosplayers so much, American cosplayers especially. Why? Do you really think hair dye and a wonder bra is going to convince me that you're XXX from YYY anime/game/manga? I mean that is IF I overlook the belly pouch?

if you have such a clear distinction between "art" and "non-art" ... who's the one to decide what art actually is? the "consumer"? some historician? or the "artist" him/herself?
what about andy warhol? is his work art or just a commercial product?
are the cave paintings of lascaux (prehistorical) art? or is it just some smearing on the wall? are these wall paintings more "art" than modern wall paintings (graffiti & street art - e.g. banksy, harald naegili)?
to define what is "art" and what isn't, isn't just a question of aesthetics, but a question of power. all these questions are related to the power of definition - the power to define what is "art" and what is "commercial product", the power to define what is "right" and what is "wrong".

Apparently every single one of you missed the point: when Ambulation comes out, I am going to style my avatar based on that wallpaper within the constraints of the engine, clothing included. You have to admit that girl *is* attractive.
Generalizing Japanese artwork (anime/manga is considered actual art in Japan) only goes to show how stupid the person who generalizes it is, because making blanket statements is a stupid thing to do. Hating all anime/manga just because of the existence of the hentai subgenre is stupid, because not all anime/manga is hentai.
How would you like it if all white people were considered ****s because ****** was white? Or all black people and Native Americans considered inferior because Europeans found it so easy to enslave them and take their land? As an animation student I have to stepin here.
style has nothing to do with whether or not the animation should be considered art.
Honestly lumping an y art into one medium is pure fail.
For example I can show you some really bad classical music and I show you "anime" that can be considered art.
I can show you 3D animation that is pure art and 3D animation is pure meh.
"Anime" as a style is something america came up with and honestly don't judge if something is art by a style, it just happens anime is a fad and thus like any fad "once again I brought up classical music" some is art, and a LARGE amouint of it bad just becuase i's popular and everyone wants to emulate it.
One last point japaness style art can actully hold true to correct proprotions, it's just rare.
SO next time you bash an art style relise that iut's called an art style becuase it can be art, it's just the art it'self that suck, not the style. the style can be just something you don't hold high on your list of great style when it comes to what sytle it could of been drawn in...
it's complacated but I hope you can understand what I mean :)
