Edited by: Kamorius on 07/06/2008 22:58:24 With Trinity beefing up the graphics of ships, stations and just about anything floating in space, the game looks pretty great. But this wallpaper from the Empyrean Age website got me thinking. http://www.eveonline.com/empyreanage/assets/wallpapers/01_1280.jpg
Why not give Space the same make-over that the models were given. Rework the planets, asteroids, stars etc. But mainly, how about adding in different æenvironmentsÆ to solar systems.
In that wallpaper you can see how that system is almost engulfed in a gaseous / dusty mist, which looks eerie and pretty cool. Wreckages floating around give it an awesome atmosphere, sort of a like a ship graveyard, so why not add similar things to Eve? IÆm sure itÆs very possible in real life that entire solar systems are swamped in noble gas or other such material that would give a very different aesthetic ælookÆ to a system.
Currently, systems are all relatively similar (aesthetically) so why not change them a little? Especially considering most of us spend the game staring at them anyway.
Thoughts?

i find gas clouds seriously kill my FPS in missions so they'd need to give option to disable the gas clouds

I'd wager that if this was implemented, they wouldn't use the same gas clouds that they use in missions, as we all know those are annoying and laggy. Just a sort of mist to give more atmosphere to a system, as per the wallpaper I linked in my first post.

Never! Add that to Jita and the whole server will crash every 0.00001 seconds.
There have been alot games with that earlier (X3 for example), its unplayable.

EVE Online: Trinity is internally known as "Renovations - Part 1". We're currently working on Part 2, have started thinking about Part 3 and tentatively started entertaining the idea of Part 4.
In Part 1 we rewrote the graphics engine and renovated ships, stations, station interiors and stargates. Part 2 will be the renovation of the deadspace art assets; the things you see in mission sites, etc.

any chance of just releasing it when it's ready as apposed to with an expansion?
EDIT: for some reason the idea of an expansion titled "eve-online Renovations" with the epic text and how close it is to revelations, would be funny :)

a while back there was a discussion about being able to disable the backgrounds - no gas clouds, just black with stars. There was talk about that possibly becoming a toggle option. Any news on that?
