I am asking here since I've heard people say so many things.
The ones I've heard is 10, 15, 20, 50, 100ME but how much is actually enough?
If we go into Categories for example a certain amount of ME on Rigs BPO shouldn't be needed since you dont use that many components too make 1 rig am I correct? While on lets say a Battleship BPO it's better with a higher ME since every little bit counts too cut down on the mineral cost?
So as a newbie in research/production what ME would you recommend me too stop on when it comes too Rigs, Ships and Equipment? Somebody set up us the bomb |

Edited by: Kelmor Malbeth on 08/06/2008 20:58:22 each item is diffrent, and will depend on 2 main things: 1 the wastage factor of the blue print 2 how many materials are need in it`s production
For each Blue Print you will have a Perfect Material Level (PME), thats is a Certain ME when adding extra lvl`s of ME research will make no diffrence on the ammount of materials required.
there are a lot of spreadsheet`s and webpage calculators that will do the maths for you but basically the PME for any given material is: = Base Material / 5 (this means that you will have a diffrent PME for each material used in the blue print)
to work out how much of a material is required at a given ME lvl you can use the following forumula: Base material + base material*(wastage factor/(1+ME lvl))
this means that for each ME lvl you research, the given benifit is a lot less compared to the previous lvl.
allso it`s important to consider that while getting to the PME for a costly material like megacyte may be usefull, saving yourself 3isk per trit. really isn`t.
edit: typo in formula

Looks good and i understand the formulas ^^
Also about wastage. When you actually produce/manufacture something it's rounded up correct? So when making a Rig i will always loose 1 of each salvage component nomatter what ME i have? Somebody set up us the bomb |

currently the manufacturing is rounded down, so that for example if you want 2 rig`s of the same type and the BPO says you need 60 AP`s
making 1 rig then another rig afterwards will mean you use 120 AP`s making 2 rigs at once may mean you will need 121 AP`s
so in a sense you are peanilised for making multiply runs of an item at once, which really is a bit of a arse over tit way of doing it.
However having typed that, i have read that this may be changed in the patch on tuesday (which would be really nice if it is) So watch this space...

For rigs I do 100
Ammo 100
Ships 20
For capital components I am not sure as I'm just now getting into this.
These are what I do, this isn't the best or worst just how I do it.

most rig BPO`s will have reached thier PME at or before lvl 25, anything after that you are just wasting your time and slots researching them...
Ofc the counter augument to that is that a lot of people in eve will just buy copys @ the highest ME level in the belief that they are saving themselves materails, when infact they are not.

Without a doubt, grab MLCalc. You'll quickly spot the majority of BPs are over researched. You can get rid of the vast majority of waste with ML20, after that it really depends on the item and the max runs, I run upto 100 for missiles and ammo as well as items that have expensive mats, like rigs.

Thats not a problem as I have a large faction tower that is currently not using all the ME slots

Currently it's not. Nor up nor down, that's why you get odd quantities when running multiple unit production runs. It used to be rounded until CCP decided to screw around with it, now it's gonna be fixed on Tuesday... Allegedly
