First of all, I am a noob to Eve.
I have up until this weekend, mainly mined my ass of to gain enough capital to buy some pretty ships etc.
I have seen Agents around, heard about implants.....
So I think to myself, I will do nothing but missions this weekend and gain a better rating so eventually I can get implants/fun kill missions to do.
Bad idea, I have done so many missions, almost all of em repeated again and again and again....
12 hrs a day, av 2 missions per hour, 3 days... 72 missions, and out of those 72 at least 2/3 have been with a low quality lvl 2 agent, (-19, -9 taking into acc my skills etc) and I still cant get anywhere near even a 0 rating lvl 2 agent ?
Any help to what am doing wrong would be most apprieciated.

If you want to do a lot of agent missions, you need to train Social, Negociation and Connections skills. Connections will help you get better agents so raise it to level 3 asap.

Did you do all your tutorial missions? For finishing those 9 missions you are awarded a 2.0 faction standing, which opens up all level 2 agents with 0 quality and below in all corporations belonging to your faction.

Hmm k so I finished my noob tutorial, and found it made no real difference to my rating, other than when reading the transactions it increased by around 4 times what I was getting for completing a mission out in in .3 space....
I a begining to think I got shafted here for not completing an idiots guide to controls lol.
any other pointers would be appreciated..

Edited by: Asharee Intrefer on 10/05/2004 07:56:04 Edit: Ah, I checked your standings. Seems you have already done the tutorial missions, and the reward for finishing the tutorial has changed to 10% faction standing increase instead of 20%, which it was not very long ago... sorry for misleading you.

Yes I had finished the mining etc etc before hand, only thing I can possibly attribute my nasty rating to is I have been mining almost constantly in Ammarr space, the past 3 weeks to be precise, 0.4 space.
I am Gallente, and would hate to even guess how many pirates I have killed out there.....

;) np, at least it pointed me in the right direction, I now seem to be getting higher rewards for missions completed.
I have only just completed the tutorial missions....

I'd look for another agent with a better rating for starters.
For your current agents corporation, show info for the agent, click on the corporation logo to open the corp info, then the agents tab. You should see a list of all agents split out by type. Find the agent of the type and level you want with the highest rating and go run errands for that one instead.
If you want a shot at implants need to use a level 3 agent.

Oh, and if you cant handle the level 3 kill missions, find a corporation that has a Distribution arm and do trade missions instead. The most you need to 10% of these missions is an indy of any type, the rest can be done in something like a kestrel (which is faster when you load it up with afterburners).

Edited by: Vanaaa on 10/05/2004 13:50:45 A way to get high lvl agents fast that new players often don't know about is:
try to join a corporation with high standing towards that faction/corp you want to do missions for. you will get "insta-access" to at least lvl2 agents, depending your skills also lvl3 agents.
Be frank with the ppl of the corp. Tell them you are still searchin your final "haven". Tell them, you want to join mainly for getting access to them agents fast. In return, the corp you join will raise it's standing with that faction. Maybe you will have to share some of the rewards you get. But that prices is easily worth the time you gain, by not having to "work" your way up form the lowly lvl1 agents to lvl2 to lvl3...
MAybe, you even find some friends in that corp... if not, you can always leave it later. Many ppl leave their corp to join another, or to solo again and stay in good freindship with the old corp.
So try it.. it helps, and increases fun
oh, and finding a crop with high standings towards a npc-corp you want to run missions for: just check the npc-corp info and have a look at the standings there. (righ-mouse-button is your friend..)

Are you sure about that Vanaa? I thought corp standing was not working yet.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way, your corp's standing has no effect on the agents that are available to you. Only personal standing are counted.
I think the misunderstanding is in where the agent says you need to have certain standing in faction, corp or personal to access him/her. The corp in that statement is not your corp's standing toward the NPC but rather your own personal standing toward the NPC corp which allows you to switch agents within the same NPC corp.

I think so... my corp has more than 4.0 standing with Duvolle, this would mean anyone could get access to level 3 agents and research projects just by joining it.

Thanks for the reply's folks, I think I have figured out where I went badly wrong (apart from not finishing the tutorial crap).
I as I mentioned before, mined my ass off in Amarr space, even after a few hours of mining back in good old Gallente space my rating etc is ticking up slowly but surely.
I guess the moral of the story is, if you want to use agents mine in the system/region they are.

as I've gone back to work for a lvl 1 SOE (to keep my gallente from slipping so much) it is as painful as you've experienced...
I have relatively high social skills and I still need to work a lot for lvl 1 agent to get to lvl 2 agents...
but that's what happens when you let one faction get so low -2.88 for Gallente right now...
a mid to high level 3 is probably 5-7 times as useful as a low level 1

um no, as a true businessman I go where the ISK leads me. and if that leads me to Gallente Space I would rather not incur rather expensive repairs.

Working for 'tiny' npc corps will give you faster progression compared to 'huge' npc corps too.

It should go up... It doesn't go up 2 points though. Mine only went up to 1.0. People are telling me that they recently changed this.
