Can someone help clear up exactly who, how & when gang status works with Sentrys?
A recent situation, when some friends lost their ships to Sentry guns after trying to defend a gang member, has left me confused over how exactly rules are applied?
Assuming you are members of a Gang:- A: But not present (i.e. you warp in after fighting starts.) Can you still shoot the initial aggressor without triggering sentries on yourself?
B: Can you undock from a Station and join a fight, i.e attacking someone who's just fired on your gang friend?
C: Can you dock & change ships, then undock to join a battle by firing only the initial aggressor who shot your gang member?
Are there other rules/exceptions when part of a gang, that will still trigger them or allow you to engage someone freely?
Thank you for any helpfull replies. Gib -- Vice Admiral - Military Command --

In Empire regardless of gang you can only shoot 4 targets...
Corp members Corp's youare at war with People with a -5.0 sec rating NPC rat's
If you start shooting at someone a member of your gang is at war with and you are not, expect a new botty curtosey of Concord

Can you shoot back at people who make the first move by opening fire on your gang member/s (corp war or not)?
I am sure there is some rule for defending your own Gang members?
Thats what I'm trying to clear up.

AFAIK no shooting at someone will result in your new botty being formal ripped. There is currently no "criminal" status flag...

You cannot defend your gang members in empire space. It's a major flaw in the game design IMHO and needs to befixed ASAP. |

After reading that referred thread, Josh, i'm confused too. Tried this with some mates months ago and it was a flop. But i don't remember the details - and today first i'd like to read an official statement of CCP before risking a sec status penalty.

Edited by: Grimster on 10/05/2004 12:02:00 Here's how I understand it works.
You can act against holstilites against a gang member so long as the gang member has been the target of hostile fire, and you are in the same grid as your gangmate when that hostile action was initiated.
This means you can't warp into the area after the initial attack and open fire, you'll just get ganked by Concord.
Have used this a few times, but unfortunately not for a couple of months, so whether or not it's been changed I don't know.
Edit - being docked in a station I think means you are not in-system, try warping to a gangmember who is docked "not in system" message, so I wouldn't try docking/undocking and having a go.

If you're in a gang and someone fires upon a member of your gang AND you're in the same grid as where the aggression took place you can fire back on the aggressor only.
I've tried and tested that helping out Merc Frigs once.
TBH I actually warped in on the conflict as it was happening but I'm not going to say that works all of the time (don't wanna get hit for a bill for a lost BS)

Hmmmm. I was involoved in this recently. I was in a gang defending a gang mate outside a station but i was at a different station. The aggressor opened fire on gang mate (outside sentry range) we returned fire, i warped in and also returned fire with no action from sentry guns. Sorry to make it even more confusing! |

Would be nice to get a proper definition of the rules from a GM

joins in on the "look confused" motion... Would be nice for a GM to pass judgement as this is getting out of hand...

Go get a half dozen friends and try all the combinations out yourself.
CCP has changed how it works a couple times due to bug fixes and stuff. We retest after patches to see what they've changed.

LOL, they won't answer you here.
File an 'other' petition. Wait for your answer. Wait til patch day. The answer is now different. Re-petition for new answer.
Or just do what I already suggested and spend an hour figuring it out for yourselves.
