These Jove bits (no matter what dev blog says) will always be useless. They can't be needed to play as new players do not get the Jove bits and I highly doubt CCP would cut off part of the game to new players.
Bottom line, they are probably worthless. === [i]I'm telling you Teal'C if we don't find a way out of this soon I'm gonna loose it. Loose it, it means go crazy, nuts, insane, bonzo, no longer in possession of ones faculties, 3 fries shor |

Probably going to need them for agent missions. The rewards are likely going to be rather significant. __________________________________________________

just because new ppl wont get them doesnt mean they are useless - things that new ppl do not get doesnt make it worthless.
I susspect they will be worth something and will be useful - but they will not be vital to game play - and i dont think anyone else thinks that they are going to be an essential part of game play.

Well the point is, they can't be that vital can they. Still, it will be interesting to see. === [i]I'm telling you Teal'C if we don't find a way out of this soon I'm gonna loose it. Loose it, it means go crazy, nuts, insane, bonzo, no longer in possession of ones faculties, 3 fries shor |

I'm sure they're going to have a use.
But the 5-6mill per piece people have been paying? No way they're going to be worth that much. Not something that was given to every account in the game. ------------ Ezra Cornell pe0n, Xanadu Corporation |

Except people who signed up afterwards, to me that just says it all that they won't play that much of a part. === [i]I'm telling you Teal'C if we don't find a way out of this soon I'm gonna loose it. Remember the bits were given out around the time of their EVE 1 year birthday - the items were a gift to all players who had an account at the time. So when rewards are given, they will be redeeming those items for their 'prize'. Why should new players get that? Its not depriving anyone of anything but if it does turn out as people think, would simply be a thank you to all accounts that were active during that time.
As for 5 million isk not being a possibility because they were given out to each account? It looks like it may have been an actual lottery in terms of parts - the rarer parts may be redeemed for much vaster sums of money than more common parts. But even if you could easily get isk for items turned in, 5 mil per item would hardly break the economy.. in fact you could get much more isk in by far into the 'pool' without effect. They are likely to be worth a hell of a lot more...
Simple speculation but pointing out that new players do not have them doesn't mean anything. There is unlikely to be any section of the game cut out to anyone... and the jove bits are not essential.. just likely to bring more than a smile to anyone that collected them I bet :P
P.S This is exacly why Polaris were strongly advising people not to sell their 'part' in Help after the event.. because then you'd you lose your claim to any prize I am sure for your 'part'. And looking at the news blurbs, it is becoming clear that those that sold their items for some pithy amount of isk may have got a huge amount more if only they had waited. We will see... still just speculation but won't have long to wait Amusing though if they are worth a lot to all those ppl that sold their part for 1 mil -----

We ALL got 2 bits each. The bits themselves wont be significantly valuable. Just think about the implication.
Combined in big piles as in corp/alliances efforts, it might be valuable.

Edited by: SlightlyMad on 11/05/2004 07:23:22 ohh yeah.. I'm forgetting I speak to a crowd consisting by a lot of morons. So let me elaborate what I mean:
5-6 mill a piece = 12 mill worth to every account. Do you really think CCP intented to give a cruiser + toys to every player in the game. Even the n00bs? What I'm trying to say is that the "prize" wont match the combined speculated value of each individual piece.
Also, how many accounts are there in EVE? Multiply that amount by 10-12M and you end up with what?
To all n00bs = Sell your parts to people that obviously have to much money. Free cruisers to everyone! * -"You know, we play the "good guys" right? Did you remember what the dev's said us recently... 2 new bloodlines would be implemented with Shiva. This can eventually be a prelude to these bloodlines. I see these Jovians parts as biomass, that we can mix with our clone to improve attributes.
I just imagine it...I have no real proof (what may be intended ). What makes me think of this possibility? -Everybody (almost) received these organic parts -Everybody can purchase and update a clone -Some science skills still have to be implemented to work with clone, and few informations filtered about them
These particular skill made me think about this as an obscure dev's plan... Click me
Anyway, I prefer to keep them for now...And wait&see :) (\_/) (O.o) (> <)=Oveur (proof) "Jumping 50 systems I can like, have sex 150 times during that period" |

I think the Jove bits were intended primarily to get everyone involved in the story line. To that end I think they are a brilliant success. However, I agree they probably can't be that valuable as the screams from the player base would echo off the heavens. :P

It's always good to have people that are so well informed and know so much about the plots, that we devs don't really need to inform you guys huh? Makes my life so much easier, thanks! _____________________________ I say hey sky, s'other say I won say, I pray to J I get the same ol' same ol. |

They gave the pieces out since we as old characters will not have a chance to select the new races.
Its a free exchange to a new character. Thats why new players wont be harmed by the give out. --------------------------

Edited by: Gail on 11/05/2004 13:39:57 I don't think so.
There is still only limited number of items available. They only dropped to those who had account at the time.
What if you start the game, lets say after the expansion, which many no doubt will do. You would never be able to get these items, if they would add significant benefits to your character.
I doubt they will give you sudden +10 perception boost or give you sudden access to Jove bloodline. This would imbalance the game totally.
Now, if you think as an old timer, you should be able to just swap to 10 milllion skill point Jove character straight away....would be absurd.

Nope, I think you missed the point a bit.
Looking at a change of bloodline for existing characters, new chars will already get the choice, it's just giving the choice to characters who didn't have it in the first place.
Shouldn't imagine a change of bloodline will change any attributes etc. for existing characters and I wouldn't want to either.
Edit - further to this when Jove do come out of the "closet" image how many Jove noobies there's gonna be, everyone will want a Jove alt

ROFLMAO! I just wonder how much of the story line _might_ develop differently (if any) based on what people say in here.
Were I a dev, I'd make things take a sharp left hand curve JUST to annoy all the speculators.
For my part, I'll sit back and wait to see what develops. I enjoy the game, and look forward to what it offers me. I don't speculate (much) on what might happen, I just wait to be surprised.
Usually I'm not disappointed.
Dev Team: KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

I think the in-game news is awesome, it adds extra depth and believability to what would otherwise be a very dull universe.
I've shown the news stories to some of the Eve-less masses at work, without even being a part of the universe, they love it. The people who write the news stories clearly have a very sharp sense of humour, and I hope that never changes.
