Hi All,
I am looking at setting up a Mammoth so I can avoid being ganked by Cruise Kestrals in hi-sec (and low sec) space.
I want to be able to hold them off long enough to either warp out of the system (eg passing thru systems)or long enough to dock once I have warped to a station.
What would everyone suggest is the best setup?

Anti hi sec ganking setup:
Get your pg up as high as possible with micro auxes and rcus, then in med slots thermal+em hardener and as many tech2 shield extenders you can fit (if you need cargo just use expanders and as many shield extenders as you can fit).
Low sec ill let you figure out yourself ;)

i have a tips 4 u.... use 2 smartbombs in the high slot... i am.. they will take out any missiles thrown at u.. if u time them right that is..

You just need more hps man, you can go with the hardeners but you have to turn them on and they'll only be as effective as a simple sheild extender if your opponents happen to be using the precise sort of damage that your hardener is good for with the amount of sheids you can get on your mammoth. The hardeners become more effective than extenders when your ship has more than a 1000 or so hps in shields, and the mammoth doesn't (caldari blackbird is an exception). If you have decent engenering skills you can get about 950 hps on your mammoth with tech one sheild extenders with a mining lazer equipped. It'll take 2 to 3 kestrals to drop you before concord kills the kestrals. Most of the time the smarter kestral hunters will scan you and notice your ship has about 2x more hps than it should and leave you alone.

I dont think using a smartbomb in hi sec space is a good idea

it depends, if tyou use small ones, it's fairly safe
although, not good if a neutral wanders into range
as long as you cutr them off before reaching range to the gate

Dunno if it fits but look into 200mm or even 400mm plates.
