and boy was i wrong about this show  very very good and look forward to watching it every friday now

Welcome to the club!
Now you just have to catch-up on 30 or so years of previous episodes. AND knit yourself a Tom Baker scarf to wear at all times.

aye, but ive officially decided that i hate factin warefare, i was sent in to draw out a bunch of cloaked enemy recons in my sacralige, and when they uncloaked none of the 30 MAN fleet we had jumped in because they said it was too risky....against about 15 recons -_-

I have never been able to explain why Dr. Who is cool to anyone. Either you dig it or you don't but there are legions of fans. Hell...the show started in the early 60's! Can you name another show that has lingered as long? (probably a few but definitely rare)
Must have something going for it and I like it (and yeah...I have even seen all of John Pertwee's episodes forward and a few from Patrick Troughton and even one or two with the first one...forget his name...although I missed most of the guy before Christopher Ecclseton).

It takes me back to my childhood and TBH it's better then fracking big brother, quiz shows, Eastenders or another **** show these days.

Its allways suffered from budget issues like the majority of "non documentary" British made tv, but it has had som fantastic story lines and is pretty much an iconic tv sci-fi show now.
That said, the recent three series have been terrible.
Though they have had a healthier budget and they re-imaged the series to make it more viable for new comers and for the US market which all though not a bad thing has lowered the target age(it is a childrens program now,before it was a familty show) and quality of the show.
The singe storyline episodes are a symptom of this, where before you would have stortylines running running for four or more episodes, now its adopted the throw away "startrek" episodic formula with editing breaks for comercials.
There have been some good storylines recently, and now that RTD is leaving the quality of storywriting can only increase,hopefully with the introduction of more two and three parters and maybe just maybe a reintroduction of more of the traditional British darkness that has made so much of out tv great, even childrens stuff (some of the most memorabrable childrens shows I can remember were so good because they did not "talk down" to the audience, a crime that the recent Dr who series are very much guilty of.
Childrens shows do not have to be all "cutesy" or "purile ****e" like Dr who has ended up :D

Longer, and by the longest running ever programme with the same presenter, that is The Sky at Night with Sir Patrick Moore, which first aired in 1957.

Its not a children's show. Its cheesy, simple, camp and silly, but its still aimed at adults.
Its fun, but thats about it. I like the fun-ness, but I'm not a fanatic.

Two very good episodes indeed, 'The Girl in the Fireplace' is the best of the new ones imo, however Really looking forward to Steven Moffatt taking over from Russell tbh
