If you have received the email below, please do not click on the link provided in the email; it is suspected as a phishing attempt for usernames and passwords. It is suggested that if you have clicked on the link and provided the information that they are requesting, please change your password immediately. In addition, if you feel as if your account has been tampered with because of this, we ask you petition as soon as possible notifying us of this occurrence.
As a side note, as we do not know the capacity this email has affected our players and would like to have you as safe as possible. Please scan your computers for any virus or malware that may have attached themselves.

I got emails saying stuff about my account at a bank... hey wait I don't have an account at that bank 
then theres always guys saying hey I'm a gm I need your acct name and pw to verify something

I'm sure a script for that wouldn't be particularly hard to code. That depends on what kind of interface they're using, though.

I recieved this in my hotmail yesterday:
it is a half decent attempt at a hoax mail apart from the missing images etc on the destination site.
NEVER ENTER YOUR CHARACTER DETAILS IN ANY SITE THAT DOES NOT START WITH https://secure.eve-online.com or https://myeve.eve-online.com/
Note the s at the end of the http this indicates a SECURE server and these are verified by a number of 3rd party companies (CCP uses: VeriSign Inc)
Please dont give these phishing sites any of your details cause they WILL strip your account, sell all your gear and then sell all your isk on the ISK/GOLD websites.

No, pretty much it just means that the owner of the website has $50 to spend on an SSL certificate.
All HTTPS means is that you know your communication with whatever site you're browsing isn't being sniffed or modified. Which is great, but it's not really designed to prevent phishing.

I'm curious why it took almost two days after CCP originally acknowledged this before there was a general announcement? Is there that much red tape over there?

No, a better idea is for CCP to create a special account and give them the username/password for it. When they try to sign in with it, block their IP address and feed them another trap account.

saw some sus stiff in rens today they were telling us to down the new firefox 3 and had some link with it wich wouldnt be taking them to get the new firefox if i see it again ill sure as hell make sure that you are aware of this and any futre atemtps to gete the details of wich they dont own

It's pretty sad that people STILL fall for phishing attempts. CCP EMPLOYEES WILL NEVER ASK YOU FOR YOUR PASSWORD! If you find someone does this (whether they are REALLY a CCP employee or not), you would be best off reporting it.

yes a CCP employee does not need your pw to enter your acct info, of else they wouldn't be able to find those guys that sell isk and those that buy from sellers. sorta makes me feel great that I lock my stuff down.

I count no less than 7 spelling mistakes or grammatical errors in the email, so you'd have to be pretty thick to think it came from CCP....
