I really don't follow sports teams, but I spend a lot of time in Caldari stations, and occasionally someone in the dock is listening to a game. I'm not sure what sport it is, though. All I can ever make out is that someone "got the ball on the 44 yard line." Allow me to briefly recount what I know about this.
Who: ??? What: the ball Where: on the 44 yard line Why: ??? When: All the ****** time.
I've been playing eve-online for about 9 months now, and I can't help but notice that the ball is always on the 44 yard line. I am beginning to suspect that it has been the same ball all this time. This raises serious doubts in my mind about the ball-handling skills of Caldari sports teams (or team). Once again, I'm not a big sports fan--I don't really have a dog in this race, but if I did, and it laid on the 44 yard line for 9 months, I would shoot it to put it out of its misery.
Frankly, I am concerned.
With the advent of faction warfare, what had been an idle curiosity could become a serious problem. It does not bode well for the Caldari State's prospects in this conflict that our sports teams cannot move the ball at all. That is to say nothing of the disturbing fact that this geologically slow sporting event seems to have engrossed a significant part of the nation for at least 9 months. Accordingly, in this time of war, I feel it is the patriotic duty of both teams to forfeit the game, quit the field, and finally move past the stupendous failure on both sides to move the ball. As for how the outcome of this game should count toward league standings, I suggest that the ball be left on the 44 yard line until Caldari fleets have finally rid the galaxy of the Gallente menace. As near as I can tell, it wouldn't be going anywhere anyway.
Cheers,

Read up on the backstory, us Caldari are very methodical types. Whenever we play, we always put the ball on the 44 yard line, cause thats how we roll. _________________ [IMAGE REMOVED] -- aka Cpt Bogus -- Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

They better punt, cause I doubt their kicker has a 61 yard leg

Edited by: Constance Harme on 16/06/2008 01:03:31 No this is the Caldari's favorite game, the object is to get the ball to the 44 yard line, and as you can see Caldari always win. Its an entirely different game, more like monopoly than anything else (another game Caldari love).

To answer your question: it's for cricket. When the team that is "striking" (represented by cyan stripes on the vests) begins a new "tossround" against the team that is "fielding" (represented by aqua stripes on the vests) they always start by putting the ball at the 44 yard line. After this the fielding team joins hands in what's called a "scrum" and runs in circles around the ball until the striking team can hit them all with large wooden bats called "bats".
The term basically means "we're starting a new tossround".
