A blind man is walking in the desert when he suddenly hears that people are eating. He moves closer and turns to them:
- Who are you, what are you eating and what are you carrying?
The answer comes:
- What we are eating we don't have because if we had what we are eating we couldn't carry what we are carrying.
The blind man nodded and went on his merry way.
So the question is:
- who were they?
- what were they eating?
- what were they carrying?

ok, i'll bite.
they are travelers eating a camel
if they had the camel still they would not have been able to slaughter it to carry what they now have, which is water from its reservoirs.
another option would be:
They are thieves.
The thieves are eating human flesh, namely Guards.
They are carrying loot (gold/diamonds/what have you)
if they had the guards, they wouldn't be able to carry the goods
It may not be correct by your answer sheet, but it fits the vague vague requisites 
take your pick, in either case logic dictates whatever they DONT have and ARE eating is something that bears what they are now carrying

They are eating wings. They are carrying a sail. They are pilots (specifically harbour pilots).
Carry is related to a nautical saying; to be equipped with a sail. So they are carrying a sail.
Wings (insignia), aircraft pilot. Which they don't have.
Pilots can be aircraft or harbour related. But if they do not have wings (aircraft pilot insignia), they must be harbour pilots?
Probably wrong... what are they carrying though? What couldn't aircraft pilots carry?

Kazuo's name reminds me that the cultural placement is important. I've already told you that the blind man was in the desert. To give some help: think of the middle-east. The story couldn't have taken place around Groom Lake for example

Yeah their camels or horses i would guess. Since they tend to kill them if they break their legs or somethign, why not eat it?
As for who they are...well those guys that ride through the desert, making encampments and such, don't know the english term for them. What they carry...how about their daily life stuff, tents, food and crap like that?

they are eating their sheep for food, having killed all of them so they dont have any left
and they are carrying the sheep wool that they have fashioned into clothes because they wouldnt be able to carry them if they still had the sheep because the sheep would die from the cold in the night without their wool!!

Two possible answers to this one that I came up with:
#1: They could have been watch salesman who were eating time; if time didn't exist (if they didn't have what they are eating) then they couldn't carry what they were carrying (selling): watches.
#2: They were women, who were pregnant and eating the men? That's a very vague area of the riddle but I'm sure this means they're women who are pregnant and eating their husbands: What they're eating they don't have (till death do us part), and if they had what they were eating they couldn't carry what they were carrying (children). Starvation hinders your ability to carry a child.
#2a: Change eating their husbands to eating blood pudding, because if they had what they were eating then they couldn't have children because they were, um, menstruating.
But seriously, more people should have some type of spacer in their sigs to show it's not part of the post. |
