I'm confused. First, Prime Minister Midular dismissed Maleatu Shakor and dissolved Parliament. Everything started going to hell, so she apparently decided that was a mistake and called an emergency session of the same Parliament that was just dissolved (though absent Emissary Shakor).
At the session, Ambassador Yun said that democracy is not "for" the Matari people. He said it is not our dream, that we are not easily led. This seems like a fair assessment. He called for unity amongst the tribes. This, too, I can get behind.
And right on the heels of this inspired speech, my feeds are reporting emergency elections to happen within the week. Elections to re-establish a dissolved Parliament, an insitution of a democracy the inefficacy of which was established less than an hour ago.
Whose dream are we following?

Ayane,
Midular dissolved Parliament so that she could stay Prime Minister for the two months before elections. She has no doubt recently come to her senses and realized that having absolutely no government is disastrous as we prepare for all out war.
By calling back parliament and calling for emergency elections she allows for Maleatu Shakor to take over as Prime Minister after the elections and prepare for what I assume will be a gradual shift back to Tribal Governance.

Tribal Politics at its best, Ayane. Midular is smart to use the Republican laws and little Government we still have to start something new for the Tribes. Much respect for that.
These vulnerable times are to test the unity and determination of our People. To choose that one leader who can lead us to our own destination, who can lead us towards freedom.

Edited by: Alexander Siege on 17/06/2008 09:05:59 I always admired Midular for her idea, that to fight the Amarrians we would need to make peace with the Ammatars and use them to against the Ammar, just like they have used them to play against us. The sad thing was this is unachivable, mostly down to our deep seated hatred against the Ammatars and what they had done. Hell I'm suprised peace lasted this long between the four Empires, this war is something everyone didnt want, as we knew the Ammar navy would just crush us again.
Though this is not the case now.
For the 100 years that have passed we Matari have proven that we have ships and capability to fight back, and maybe all this time both leader on both sides have known this and tried to prevent war as it would just lead to a long drawn out affair probably gaining nothing on both sides but a rather large body count on both sides. Why do you think she ordered the admirals death?
I think Midular has realised that her dream has ended and that the republic, as Yun and other have already said, can't work as an democracy as this didn't run the Old Empire we had before the Ammar came and enslaved us. No we need the old system because it something we created and its up to us to change and adapt as the universe changes with it. Midular dosnt have the Ray of Matar mark for nothing. She might of thought she would do something great with her idea, but maybe its because of her decision right now?

Yes, kind of like the beginning of this war is really the end for your race.

I do believe you actually have to do something about that in space. Thus far, the Amarr Empire is too inept to even consider these words to have a timeline for the next few centuries. Practice how to shoot your laser beams, fly your ships and undock consistently without colliding into each other before making bold statements.

Perhaps, but at least we lived a free life, and are worthy enough to take a seat next to our forefathers in the great halls of the afterlife.

I once made a post here about how the Republic was the design of the Gallente. And while the Democratic style of government seems to make the Gallente happy it does not, can not and will not work for the tribals. The basis of my argument was that the cultures are far too different to operate under the same set of rules. After all, every group makes itĘs rules based entirely on itĘs own specific way of viewing the world. I went on to suggest that perhaps the tribals should try to form their own unique type of government that would work for their specific needs. I finished with a summation of the benefits the entire cluster would reap with a more stable system of self-rule in place.
And now it seems the tribals agree with meą at least partially.
IĘm a bit amused by this because the replies to my post were drooling foamy accusations of trying to sow descent in the ranks of the Republic.
I said plainly that I had no interest in the destruction of the Republic nor the enslavement of itĘs people. I then restated a few key points in my initial post.
This was followed by threats to kill my childreną not that I have any.
Oh well, I guess thatĘs just life in the cluster.

Oh please, stop flattering me. I'm very proud of my conscious and completely personal choice that led me to the Empire, and I'm enjoying my state as an Amarr loyalist very much, thank you.

Democracy is simply not for our people because democracy, at its best, is a slow, lumbering form of government. Simple decisions get tied up for weeks or months because everyone must have a say. This pondering form of decision making is perfect for our Gallentean friends. It's how they think and it's is so ingrained into their core.
Minmatar need to move to stay alive, it's who we are. A tribal government facilitates this ingrained behavior. Our tribes can govern without the bloat of bureaucracy and get things done; when grand decisions about our people need to be made, than our tribal leaders can talk amongst themselves in the true nature of a Oligarchical Republic.

Very true my friend, very true. It's much like our combat style, get in, hit hard and get out. Its why the Elder fleets worked so well until the unstoppable force met the immovable oject, at which point we quietly widthdraw. The main problem with when our govenment was created was at a time we lost the elders of the Thukker, Starkmanir and Nefanter during the rebellion, that the tribal structure was lost so the Gallente just lent us their system not knowing that it wouldn't work.

Edited by: Elsebeth Rhiannon on 18/06/2008 09:49:02 First of all, "dissolution of a parliament" does not mean there will not be a parliament anymore. It means that the current parliament is dispersed so that a new one may be chosen.
It is what happens every time just before the end of the term of a parliament. Here it happened prematurely because Karin Midular decided to listen to the vote of no-confidence, and was then pushed forward to only a week ahead instead of the 1-2 months time to prepare and discuss, due to recent catastrophic developments of international politics.
Since the parliament is dissolved, they cannot (honorably) pass new laws. This means they cannot, among other things, change the form of the government. After all, if they could, it would be all too easy for a parliament that is dissolved, be it because of end of term or a vote of no-confidence, simply change the laws so that they would return to power.
Ambassodor Yun, among others, has called for such a change, to move us from Gallente-style democratic government to a more traditional tribal leadership - whether such changes are necessary and desirable will have to be decided by the new government. It would be extremely dishonorable for anyone in the current government - and that includes Brutor representatives as well as Sebiestor - to do those changes before getting voted in again.
What now remains to be seen is whether the tribes and clans, in the upcoming emergency election, will show support to such a move, or not.
What is your clan's stance?

I'm officially worried about you nowadays, Andreus. Even a month ago, that sentiment would have been wrapped up in a healthy slathering of sarcasm and wry humour. Nowadays, it's like you hate everyone and everything, and can't be bothered to exercise your trademark dry wit any longer.
Seems to me like the new Andreus Ixiris can be summed up by the sentiment "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, provided that it's the same as mine."
