What sort of quality rat can I expect to spawn at belts in a 0.2..? Anything that would have a reasonable bounty and loot?

Battlecruisers and cruisers for the most part. An occasional triple battlecruiser spawn. Higher bounties, not sure about loot quality, but you'd get more loots. If you're wondering whether it is worth going from 0.3-0.4 to 0.1-0.2 from my experience it definitely is.

Thanks.
Do you happen to know how often ships spawn at the belts? If the are worth (rough guess) 150k ISK per ship and spawning every 5 minutes...camping there for a few hours could be quite nice financially...?

Edited by: Leora Nomen on 17/06/2008 02:07:24 I can't quite remember but this guide says the following: "Once you get into 0.4 space and below, the rats will start to increase in bounties by quite a bit. By 0.1 space they are about 235k each which, compared to the 5-6k of high sec is quite an improvement." So I believe in 0.2 they are around 200K mark for the bc. Spawning happens once every 20 minutes. So if you camp a single belt you'd get about 3 spawns. You should just find a system with a lot of belts and warp belt to belt.

I lived in Khanid lowsec for awhile. The battlecruiser rats ranged from 175k to 200k, and they spawn around gates as well as belts.
Each rat had significantly higher bounties (and loot, IIRC - I got a ton of medium smartbombs which were 100k each) than in missions.
Using a laser Punisher the income was a little less than Lv3 missions. I took quite a while to kill the triple BC spawns and couldn't kill any of the nossing triple Blood Raider cruiser spawns, and my cargohold was small so I had to be selective with looting. Maybe a cruiser would've made more money?

Low sec ratting makes nice money for young players, both on bounties as on loot. Especially for people who didn't (want to) train for mining/production. If you play it smart then it's quite safe as well, IF you play it smart...
Use a frigate with a (close to) perma tank and you'll do well.

Would a fast missile frig be viable against BC`s?
I mean, for closing fast and getting under their guns?

It depends, you really want to fight BC's with turrets, not missiles. Get in close, orbit at 500 and just wear them down. as long as you can take a few hits and run your tank for a long time you'll be fine. The other BC's will be much more difficult to keep transversal on, so per usual the important one isn't the one you're shooting, it's the other guy who IS able to hurt you.

Why would you want to use turrets over missiles? Just a question!

I worded that the wrong way, what I meant was that you really want to fight BC's WHO use turrets instead of missiles, so you can orbit them in safety. Wehter you yourself use turrets or missiles is up to you. Missiles are easier to use, turrets do more damage most of the time.

I see! Now it makes sense to me!
Correct. I can handle pirate cruisers in an out-of-the-box Condor worth pennies without even going above 10% shield damage. Thats why I asked about BC`s.

No difference, they just hit harder so you have to be more careful about keeping your transversal, which isn'r really a problem when going against one (apart from the approach). If there's more you're bound to get hit, that's why you need a tank you can keep running for a bit.
If you are able to perma tank it makes it just that much easier hehe.

You are correct of course. I hate the friggy hangers-on who sit there taking pot shots until their mummy ship goes pop..and then they die!!
