A Mammoth has about 30% more capacity with max expanders, max GSCs and the respective Industrial skills at IV. The biggest T1 hauler is the Iteron V, but that needs Gallente Industrial V (a little over 20 days).

For T1 Haulers, the biggest is the Iteron V, and the 2nd biggest is the Mammoth.
However, while T1 haulers can be big and cheap, they are also paper soft targets.
Transports (T2 Haulers)range from slightly smaller than the Iteron V, to a bit bigger.
The Impel is the biggest, HOWEVER, to be that big, it has to use all its low slots, and it only has one Mid slot. While tougher than a T1 Hauler, a fully expanded Impel is still a very soft target.
If the Impel uses its low slots to armor tank, it can fit a great tank, but only about 5000 cargo. The Occator is similar, but has 2 mid slots, and 1 less low slot.
The Mastadon and Bustard are both a bit smaller, but can fit moderately tough shield tanks (Good basic resists, and 3 mid slots), and AT THE SAME TIME, use their low slots for expanders.
And remember, any ship can die.
Play nice while you butcher each other.

Cargo Expander rigs are 60mil, kinda expensive for a T1 hauler

I haven't counted with rigs, but it would be interesting to see if some t1 with 3 rigs can reach bigger cargos, than the t2 versions with only 2 rigs.
Anyway, in my eyes are such expensive rigs not an option.
Summarise: with lvl4 skill Mastodon is the best with lvl5 skill Impel (cause it involves only +1 skill lvl for spec)
The answer to the question: Even a Bestower with lvl1 skill hauls more, then the Badger mkII with lvl4 skill.

The implication though is that because he's hauling ore he needs the ability to scoop it from space - the Charon is fine for moving ore from the mining station to the refining station but rather hampered in picking it up from the miners
The Mastadon (Passive Kinetic Amp, Large Booster II & Amp/Invuln) offers, to my mind, the best option for large haulage. It has solid, across the board resists and "get out of jail" boost and a hugely capacious cargo; it lacks cap but not in any meaningful way (you don't need to perma boost with it after all).
However the best way (cheapest, fastest) to move more than a Badger MkII worth of ore is to get another Badger MkII... More haulers have the advantage that they can be in different places at the same time, haul more - and if you are ganked you recover a higher percentage of the haul. --

Spend 150 mil on an Iteron V (cargohold rigs), and you'll get 38433 m^3. With GSC it will be about 45,633 m^3.
Or if you have cash and little training time. Minmatar Industrial IV - my alt with horrible perception trained it in under a week.
Mammoth with Minmatar Industrial IV = 17838 m^3 with all expaded cargo IIs in lows (20838 m^3 with GSC). Spend 150 mil for the rigs and you get 27129 m^3 (32,529 m^3 with GSC).
Should be an effective ore hauler for you with little time investment. If you get teh rigs - make sure you use a scout.

They're more like around 45-48 mil right now actually.

Edited by: Pteranodon on 19/06/2008 14:15:32 My concern with the tec1 cargo ships is that they cant tank an attack from a pea shooter.
I sometimes move valuable minerals like Zydrine in Empire & that makes me real scared if I'm moving it in a badger.
I've fortunate that I can now use a Maurader with 3-4 thousand cargo space & that makes me feel much safer but it's one hell of an expensive transport ship. I think it would make an empire ganker think twice if you were packing 4 425 rails, a full set of drones & an able tank. Might last until concord showed up.

Depending on how much room you need but you can fit a Badger II like this.
2x Power Diagnostic Unit II Damage Control Unit II
4x Medium Shield Extender II 2x Invulnerability Field II
3x Core defence Field Extender (resistance rigs if you want to be cheap)
~35,000 effective hitpoints. Might hold you off long enough till concord arrives for the casual suicide ganker.
If you want AFK travel and max haulage capacity isn't the highest priority...
3x Nanofiber II
Y-S8 Hydrocarbon Afterburner 2x medium Shield Extender EM Passive resistance Amp Kinetic Passive resistance Amp Thermal Passive resistance Amp
3x Low Friction Nozzle joints Rigs
Put a weight on your AB key 481 m/s and ~8 second align time. I don't recommend AFK travel with really expensive gear - this is more of a casual 30 jump haul type thing. Its somehwat useful for low sec hauling too - you get enough tank and agility to have a semi-decent chance of burning back to the gate and jumping back (swap 1 nanofiber for a damage control though).

If you want to move something expensive, blockaderunner is always the way to go, fully fitted for align speed it warps in under 2 seconds. and can haul a little over 4500m3
As for hauling larger bulks, Iteron mark 5 with rigs and cargo expanders is as big as it gets. Just don't haul something worth ganking you over. ==================================================

Actually, the Mammoth gets 22338m3 with Cargo Expander IIs and 5 GSC's.

i hold a little over 30,000 m3 in my bustard, with 2 x T1 cargo rigs, & a full rack of T2 cargo expanders in my low slots.
since its seems ur already in the badger, that will be ur best bet, with a good amount of space

You can get over 40k with t2 rigs and GSCs in a bustard. No reason not to use the t2 rigs because a bustard should never enter 0.0, (for that you use a blockade runner) and you're almost invulnerable in lowsec/highsec.

Don't over-exaggerate: Transports can enter 0.0 - hell, even Freighters can do it...u just don't "solo-haul" huge quantities of expensive stuff without proper escorts, scouting etc.
Also, do not haul really expensive stuff in huge quantities without a fast blockade runner, cause suicide ganking will eventually get to you... Join the Biggest Greek Corp! www.Mythos-eve.com - Join Mythos Channel in game! |

When hauling expensive stuff, just use an iteron V rigged with cargo opts and full with expanders. Autopilot; done.

Or switch to Bestowers. That extra low slot is awesome. As far as I can tell the only reason to fly Badgers is because you're training to use the Charon.

If you've already trained for Badger, Bustard is probably a good bet - it's almost as big as an Iteron V (less one rig slot and about 750m¦ of base cargo space), and it's a T2 ship with lots of mid slots to pile up shield defences against suicide ganking in highsec. Given that it's not as easily lost as the Badger, rigs, perhaps even T2, are a real option (whereas you'd be very rich or very brave to put rigs on a badger).
Good thing about using the Bustard is that you're not far from a Charon later on. Bad thing is that it's not cheap, but then none of the T2 transports are.

QFT!!! THATS THE ONLY WAY TO GO TBH!!
A revelation with 8 expanded cargo holds, 2 T2 cargohold optimization, and a t1 cargohold optimization will get you about 83k Cargo. You can get it even higher if you use containers. Well worth it IMO.
