See here
Been looking over the reviews, and it does seem quite good, a new approach and increases the fps by around 10% and has its own internal firewall and download client, with a USB port in the back to download to. It seems nifty, the.... heatsink looks like some sort of a fantasy sword gone wrong but still looks cool.
But its 170 squids! Thats $230 (damn my poundsighn key notworking).
Has anyone bought one that is willing to share if it works or not or is some sort of WoW only thing?

I've seen it reviewed and it looks good. It's basically a Linux box on a card.
Is it worth it? I guess some people will pay top dollar for every possible advantage in twitch games. And others want a rig that's the best of the best, water cooled, physics accelerator, twin ú400 GFX cards ... so why not another ú170 eh?

Edited by: HankMurphy on 18/06/2008 18:53:06 i guarantee you this isn't worth it
a $10 nic card will perform the same function as a $100 nic card. your game performance and FPS and such are more a component of either your systems internal functions (video card, processing power, memory) OR your overall latency to the server you are playin on (every device between you and their, IE your isp, the internet backbone)
the last place you need to improve if you have an issue is your NIC card, there is no way in any scenario that that is your bottleneck this is for ppl that have too much money and not enough brains ------------------------------ of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most |

Above is what I was thinking, but by the looks of some reports about WoW and LotRO, the Jita equivalents became playable using this thing....
A whole Linux box? Hadnt thought of it like that but that sounds right. Wonder what kind of heat this mother generates, the custom heat sink looks like water cooling wouldn't work, though I am no master when it comes to that

If you want an expensive network card then buy a gem stone and attach it to a $10 netcard. Later you could always remove it and sell it It's BS.

A nice fast nic card is completely useless unless you have an equivalent router. Also, you'd have to be getting over 100mbit from the internet connection to make it necessary. Remember that only your LAN is going to be benefitting from a fast network card, if you internet connection is slower than your existing LAN, you won't see any performance difference - no matter what the hype may say.
You can buy a 1gb network card for less than a quarter of that and a lot of motherboards have them onboard as standard now. An equivalent 1gb router and you would have more than enough for any existing internet connection. The 1gb NIC and Router together would probably still cost less than that NIC does.

Jita's source of lag comes from the server node handling the system, how is a network card going to fix the issue?

the gains are so small that it's unnoticeable. specially in games like EVE. ---

this imo.
ú170 for a network card that is barely any better than a ú5 one? ...
