Hi
I never did PvP before in Eve and so I'd like to try out FW. However, I don't intend to do it for a long time, as I a) don't have the skills and b) don't have money (or alts to make money) to last me for more than a few t1 frigs. Is it possible to just hop in a jumpclone, join a small gang to fight and as soon as I'm dead return to my normal life? I don't want to be attackable by anyone.

You want to be asking this in general discusion tbh, but when you join your in FW untill you leave the FW corp which you can do at any time. I doubt ou'll have any jump clones just yet unless you've got the faction standings (in which case, you'd have lots of isk too) How much isk and skill points do you have? You might find a corp involved in FW that provides free frigates.... maybe

man up and join the militia, I tried it and left after 4 days... its just like 0.0 fleet warfare.
you dont need an alt, grab a jump clone and a frig and get busy. if you lose the ship its onlya frig and if you lose the JC its not a problem.

I've got 8.2m SP so far and a standing of 8.4 with Spacelane Corp. I just jumped in a Raven a week ago, I have no gunnery skills (except WU) and no armor tanking skills. I'm quite a carebear, so I don't want my character to be attackable all the time... How much are jumpclones? I never actually used one, but IIRC they're quite cheap.
Oh and ISK: currently about 55million

How does 55 million not last for more than a few t1 frigs?
Buy t1 frig... fit it out with t1 and insure it... Lose it...
Total loss? less than 100k
55M/100k = how many frigates? 550 Frigates. |

As the one above me said, 550 frigates!
Ok, you have no gunnery skills, well, you fly a raven, which means you must have missile skills which are also useable in pvp. you don't need guns to pvp, it's not a requirement.
Leave the Raven in high sec. Safe. Make a JC to not lose implants.
Buy kestrels, caracals, blackbirds, drakes, or just lots of kestrels. I mean with 20 kestrels you should have lots of fun.
Move them to a convenient lcoation. Join the Militia. Get the ship, fly, have fun.
Once you are fed up with it, leave the Militia corp, go back to what you were doing. Than, in the future, join the Militia again.
Ta da!

iirc if you join the Caldari militia the only people who can freely come along and shoot you are the Gallente and Minmatar militias. Being as the Caldari Navy NPC at stargates will shoot them on sight, you'd still be perfectly safe running missions in Jita while you're a part of FW

with a completely cherry 800k alt you can fly any of the level 1 kill missions though some you'll need to hit and run to succeed. i'm working up the faction standings of an alt to get into FW and i'm making several mill a day just blitzing level 1's. that's a couple good frigates a day i'm able to buy or a couple cruisers a week.

Sounds to me like you'll do just fine! You don't need to be some 50mill sp player to effectivly fly a t1 frig or destroyer, just remember to keep your clones upto date!
As they said, join up but lots of cheep frigs/destroyers, join gang = lots of pvp = lots of fun

I'm not in FW, but my move to 0.0 was the best move I ever did. You might even not want to go back to empire anymore :)

Avoid only being involved in mega FW blobs. You aren't going to be that much safer. I'd say try it, and see if you like it. If you do like it, 0.0 alliances do it better.
I'd say, see if you can grab a few (2-5) people and roam in smaller gangs looking for baddies (or FW mission running/capping plexes if you must ). No more sentry gun aggro on opposing militia members ftw! __________________________________________________

Thx for all the replies, I think I really had a wrong image of PvP in my head before. I've got quite much work to do until next thursday, but then I'll definately try it out=)
When I'm in a gang I don't need to have webbers, scramblers and all that ECM stuff, right? I also have Caldari Frigate to V, that would allow me to go for interceptors (fast webber/scrambler but not much firepower) and assault frigates (firepower?), right?
Btw, I thought "Crime and Punishment" refers to PvP...

just get 0.5 standings with a faction and try it out in a cruiser or something, you die, its only cruiser, thats what i do, ive lost probably, idk 50-60million in cruisers/equipment being in FW, over the course of a month, but im still in it
just a suggestion: dont join the caldari militia, or ammarr, minmatar or gallente FTW, the gallente might have lost 2 systems, but that fact is really pointless until they start actually making capturing systems useful, ive had a few suggestions, but not to many
i think something that could be done, is if you capture a system, you get a fleet of your factions navy npc ships, and i dont mean the high sec "fleet" of 2 battleships you get when entering enemy high sec, i mean like a lvl 4 missions worth of npc's, and give an option if you need some help, a "reinforcments needed" option, so if you need a little more of an edge, you could call for some NPC reinforcments, wouldnt be like calling in a player fleet, but would still be useful nonethless
dont join the caldari/amarr factions, you will be joining the losing side

Ha- Your not safe anywhere let that be known, if you are a cruiser or less in empire hi-sec, you may not be safe. But keep thinking that. The response time of the Faction Military are delayed and attacks and travel through hi-sec have been done with minimal to no loss.

Are you ok? I think you joined the wrong side, Gallente Fleets are usually small, outnumber or outgunned but we manage and have great fun while causing heavy casualties.

No.. you dont need gun's, but.. they are superior for PVP.
