Hello folks
I have been out of the loop for quite a while now and would like to see if I can do anything to upgrade my current rig without buying an entirely new computer.
Setup: Windows XP Pentium 4 CPU, 3.06 GHz 1 GB RAM (Will move to 2GB) Nvidia Geforce FX 5950 Ultra 256mb (AGP)
Now I remember yonks ago, spending a stupid amount for that card and cant even find it on the market at the mo, so I really donÆt know where would be the next step. From a little Googling, it looks like the best AGP card I could get is the Gainward 7800GS but this also seems to have gone the way of the dodo.
Could some one point me in the direction of a AGP card that wouldnÆt break a sweat with the likes of HL2, CS:S, BF2 142, C&C ect and at the same time not break my wallet? Edit: In the UK
Thanks in advance!

I believe the ATI 3850 comes in AGP. Its the 3rd or 4th card from the top of their line up (I think).

Less then ú100 decent card, but I really wouldnt recommend buying it since you wont be able to use it in your next computer.

The nVidia 7800 (GS, I think) is the best AGP card that I know of. I have one and it's pretty good, though not great by today's standards. I don't think any cards released since have been AGP, just PCI.

I had the same problem recently. I just decided to upgrade the MB and chip. It's actually going to be cheaper in the long run because your new graphics card will outdate slower, and when you finally do upgrade, you will already have the MB and chip in place instead of having to buy all three. ---- What part of "shorn't" do you not understand? |
