Edited by: Fir Q on 20/06/2008 08:50:29 do you have to have a cap ship to tank a level 5? or can a Marauder w/ some logistic ships handle the tanking stuff?
Or how would you tank level 5's w/o using caps?

The 1 lvl 5 i attempted was leathal, you will definately need logistic support.
I tried with a full passive drake (under 200 sec shield recharge) + a gang mate with 2 shield reps perma boosting and still got slaughtered.
After several attempts and losing 5 drakes, 1 cruiser and 1 frig (trying to speed tank) i gave up.
Now training up logistic skills before trying again.
Combat Cataclysm Cruise Missile hits you for 900.0 damage
Good luck

obviously the exact details depend on the mission, but I have only successfully done one lvl 5 without logistics support, and that was when I had a crazy fast interceptor as the tank. It was able to do it because there weren't any nossing towers.
If there are nossing towers, you absolutely 100% need a passive tank ship (drake) and logistics support...a dedicated logistics ships (basilisk or guardian) plus your buddies need to have either repping drones or a shield transfer in their extra high slots.
But, this was before EA, so who knows now. I doubt they got easier though. I hope they didn't anyway. I just want them to get more rewarding, so your buddies actually want to tag along with you.

I'm always wondering how many people you need to complete these in general. Could a single BS, like a Raven and a single logistic ship handle them? Or would you not have enough DPS? |

I tried a lvl 5 on SiSi and found that the DPS outputed was way more then a Kronos fitted for tank and a Domi fitted with 6 large remotes could tank.
I would suggest if you want to try the Lvl 5 you do them on SiSi first to verify you go the tanks setup.

then can be done with t2 tanked BS and a support phoon or domi with repair drones and 1 remote armor repairer.
They NOS you so impossible to do with one ship

No and Yes
1) Yes - Pending the mission if it has Neut Towers or not...
2) No - Due to neut towers so Passive drake and Logistics wins but then u lack DPS so the best setup by far atm for level 5's is :-
Passive Nighthawk 100% Golem or Cnr for DPS fitted with 2 x Remote shiled Reps.
Trust me i have logged around 100 hrs on sisi doing them.

Did a couple of lvl5's with corpmates, one of them in a fully passive fitted nighthawk with only spr/pds in low and only passive amps/extenders in mids. I had to take the domi with 2x large remote shield II's, and even then it was barely possible on some of the missions.
They are hard, but if you can run em, they are worth it ***Sig***

For the nighthawk try all spr on the bottom and then you will see the diffrence and also T2 rigs help.
Make the investment and you will reap the profits

I run my lvl 5 missions with a Nighthawk and a Guardian. The Nighthawk runs a fully active tank and the Guardian just provides the juice to keep it running. I've had to warp out every now and again, but the setup works quite well.

Yep indeed i have seen a few setups that also work with this setup. Only problem is how do you find the time it takes to complete the missions as you lack raw DPS or do you have a 3rd character for that ?

well capitals really are the way, lots of carriers and moros, I assume you mean to wait until you get one in high sec to do it however.
when I tanked one in my carrier (so sig radius cant get much bigger) I was tanking about 2k dps prob rose to about 2.3 - 2.5 in the heat of the mission.
Biggest point to make here is, passive tanks WILL NOT tank at max regen. For the most part it doesn't matter but when you are trying to maintain a tank on the limit of your passive tank, it will get knocked under peak regen and when this happens you will die. BC simply cant get enough hp in their shields to maintain stability in such a hostile environment.
I would say your better off tanking in a rokh due to its base shields being higher, though in the same breathe... you'll take a lot more damage from those capital torps lol
a logistics BS would also be a good idea, its a bit tricky since shield transfers use stupid amounts of cpu but it will almost certainly be needed. course a logistics is a lot more survivable since it can sit a long way off.
All in all go in with a large group and hit hard and fast.

I'm afraid not, because you wont take damage at a constant stream like 1000 per second, you will take bursts like 3k, 400, 100, 500...
if that initial 3k burst takes you under your peak recharge you are tanking less, and suddenly if you get a few hard hits together your 1000 dsp tank isn't as good for tanking as you once thought.
Not to say that active tanks are better but this is why something like a golem with 7k burst damage will make a mockery of a passive shield ship.

I formally known as Agif recorded over 40 Level 5 mission with the "evemissions" website which i just closed. which were all completed using a Nighthawk so Sir. i do say you are wrong as i and all my witness's that used that site will tell you that a Nighthawk can and is the ultimate ship for level 5's...
Now yes maybe the burst is lower but you have to take into account of Neut towers. The objective of the website was to show ppl what could be done at the lowest level. I admit sometimes it requires a warp out and re warp in but they can be done JUST using a NH and a Cap heavy Ship would melt solo doing these.
Its all nice baffling with numbers but the variables that come into play basically knocks your theory to crp. So hense you are wrong
The nighthawk due to passive tank is and formally the best ship. Ppl use a BS with a logistics ship *Guardian* to keep there tank going but A log ship + Guardian is not as good DPS a say a NH and Golem or other Maurader...

Heh guys ... risk something and try these missions for your own
A small hint so far: you need sometimes a lot of DPS or the missions will be awful boring. In a lot of mission you have to destroy massive amounts of hit points (and that's not really rewarding). Bad mission design so far.

If i may ask, what makes the nighthawk so good? with only 6 launchers using at best heavy assault launchers, i can't see it having the dps to clear a lv5 mission...
A nighthawk has 1 less mid slot and 1 less rig slot compared to a drake, which means it won't be able to achieve the same passive shield regen as a drake, and its base shield resists are not that impressive.
Alright it does get a 25% ROF bonus and a 25% resists bonus (No sure if thats included in the base stats) but still not that impressive.
Anyone care to enlighten me?

The Nighthawk is the t2 of the drake. You need your passive shield skills trained up to 4 or 5 and you need max missile skills.
As for damage, the Nighthawk is there for absorbing damage not dealing damage. There is no better ship out there that can take getting its cap sucked dry and still hold its tank. A simple nighthawk and raven combo works or you can use a t2 BS but the nighthawk is there for the energy drains.

Muff Alt,
Since you closed your site, could you report the L5 missions on Eve-Survival? There is no info out there and you seem to be the expert on L5 missions. What would it take for you to do that? I am sure that many people would be willing to help. Thanks.
