just thinking about a role for those... and since there's very few antinano (minnie recons, hyena, curse/pilgrim in certain circumstances), maybe AFs could fill the gap nicely?
as it stands, i fly around in nano ships knowing that i can escape almost anything unless i'm stupid (WHICH I OFTEN AM) give me something to be scared of!
maybe a web range bonus? or a huge tracking/explosion velocity bonus?
just a thought.

You win one intranetz for admitting that nano's are overpowered in that they can start and end fights at their will.
Also.. might be an idea, but then again it's probably not that easy to implement. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- The secret to success, whether it's women or money, is knowing when to quit. I oughta know: I'm divorced and broke. |

No. They're Assault Ships; anti-nano is defense.

Might help, won't fix them.

Having the mass and speed of a frigate would go a long way towards making them good nano tacklers.

Mass reduction and slight resistance to webs would effectively solve AFs, however I am unaware of which "nano" "problem" there is.

Already exist, they're called Interceptors. They dont work for some people but you know, you can't win by spamming approach every time. _______________________________________________________________________ EVE Online: The Hand-holding Age The truth about balance is that there isn't one, there never has been and there never |

AFs are the only T2 ship class that's actually heavier and slower than their T1 counterparts. That's not the case with HASes (that are in direct comparison with AF's, only in cruiser favour), nor ceptors.
Should that happen, many AFs would become just as effective (and whine generating) as many nano-HASes tbh... Join the Biggest Greek Corp! www.Mythos-eve.com - Join Mythos Channel in game! |

Not necessarily. Surely webbing a ship so you can approach and kill it is an offensive action? Like old hunters who'd use the weighted net to capture fast targets so they could spear them?
The issue with AF's is that for their cost there's a cheaper ship that can do whatever the AF wants to do much more effectively.

Make webs sig radius based.
That way when a ship uses a AB, it can get close and do all kinds of nasty damage....

In my view AF's should deal a lot of damage at a close in you're face style.
Not be able to catch something fast as a interceptor or a natural nano'd recon but if did would melt them, they should be vunerable at range to larger ships but once get under their guns cause a lot of trouble, this would make them true assault frigs in a charge in and deal pain till you or the other guys dies style.
Need a bit more speed and agility but not too much that they can disengage at will and cut and run, once commited they should pretty much stay commited.
Some sort of web resistance linked to skill lvl and perhaps a bit more dps.

AF have role: they are ASSAULT ships. The only problem is they suck at this role.

Well yeah, that's the idea... aside from the whinning part anyway.
It would obviously add another ships to the nano speed realm, but AFs would be situated between inties and hacs in speed (where they naturally should be).
One of the biggest issues I think people have with nanos as they are is you generally need a T2 cruiser or a stupid target to effectively tackle one. This, I think, comes at least partially from one of the ships that would naturally be used to tackle them can't catch them--AFs.
AFs would not have this same issue because inties would still be able to catch them.
It would add variety and a smooth progression of ships sizes to the nano game making it more accessible and interesting, as opposed to the steep entry barrier present now.
It seems like there are two sides to this argument seeing each other as their nemesis: pro nano don't change it people, and anti nano nerf it into the ground people.
It's fantastic that this kind of a skirmish gameplay style has developed and it should be embraced, but it could use some filling out from a design perspective, at least IMO.

I'm with this guy - look at the damned name for crying outloud. Just make them do more damage than tech 1 cruisers, and leave everything else alone.
