Edited by: sableye on 15/05/2004 00:17:38 ok I got a duel 150mm rail on my thorax but it just does'nt seem as good as 2 seperate 150 small rails, I was under the impression its just supposed to be 2 of these stuck together so whats going on, my skills and bonuses are the same for each turret type, so I should'nt notice any skill point differnce.
or are they just the same and I'm just seeing something that does'nt exist?
edit: note I'm using the duel 150 on a thorax and the single 150's on an incursus frig.

Dual 150mm are medium weapons, with less dmg than 250mm , but higher rate of fire, and i find them quite ok at low range. ----------------------

Edited by: mqwam on 15/05/2004 01:01:02 A Dual 150mm rail ist not a pair of 150mm rails. It¦s a med size gun with own stats and not a doubled small railgun.
The Dual 150mm has a bit better RoF and holds more ammo than the 150mm but has the same range and lower (maybe half?) tracking. So you have problems hitting the target. And with short range ammo it even gets worse.

I don't like the Dual 150mm Rail. It's crap. Trust me. I have a little DOT formula I came up with that I use for my own purposes. I like my formula better than just Damage*ROF because it gives you more a real world idea to work with.
Here's the formula:
(damage of gun*total ammo hp)*shots over 30 seconds = DOT
What this tells you is a theoretical number of hitpoints of damage done over 30 seconds. I always use the strongest ammo in my calculations (in this case antimatter).
For a Dual 150mm Rail we have this:
(1.5*24)*(30/3.9) = 276.9
Now lets take a look at the single, small 150mm:
(2.75*12)*(30/4.25) = 232.9
To me that looks similar enough that the small 150mm is a better choice (other than you will have to possibly carry small along with medium ammo if you do a 250mm/150mm combo). In my case, when I first got my Rax I wanted to fit 3x 250mm + 2x Dual 150mm. I had to sacrifice all my low slots to CPU/PG mods (because I was too unskilled). I found out that a good alternative was to use the small 150mm and get my low slots back.
More food for thought on the Rax and newer players:
3x 250mm and 2x Dual 150mm will do 1484 damage in 30 seconds using my formula. 5x Single 150mm will do 1164 but you will have ALL your low slots for damage mods/whatever and TONS of PG and CPU to work with. Add two damage mods and all the sudden the small guns can do almost as much damage as the big gun combo (but with less average range) and you will still have three more low slots, and lots of CPU/PG to work with.
Just something to consider.

Dual weapons are like the bastard children of two different weapon classes. They have the poor range and damage of the smaller weapons and have the poor tracking and higher grid useage of the larger weapons. Its like taking the worst traits of both and making one uber crappy weapon.

I do like the Dual 180mm gun (especially the 'Scout' version). It's an awesome close range weapon, the raw DOT doesn't quite match a Blaster but using Blasters on a Mini ship is blasphemy.

Edited by: Admiral IceBlock on 15/05/2004 15:37:43 well, CCP should really give the low PowerGrid weapons better Tracking then the high PowerGrid weapons.

iceblock your question is incorrect, its the other way around.
but mostly its just a name, in reality its more like a gun of the same class, with a lil of the barrel chopped off so it does less damage.
it just looks like a dual gun of whatever, but in reality they got nothing to do with each other.
All of above post was formulated wth 100% honesty and 100% sarcasm. Now i only need to get drunk
The 3rd turret is the Malediction is missing. Plz make as much noise as possible so that CCP gets us a remedy for that, possibly before X-Mas this year. |

Edited by: Galen Dvorak on 15/05/2004 19:27:40 Just looking at option for my Thorax setup for some NPC hunting/missioning to pass time.
Was thinking the following:
1 x Small Smartbomb II, (according to posts it should be enough to wipe out most/all missiles?) 2 x 250mm Railgun I with what ever gives best range/damage for ammo, perhaps even Iron? (Used from long range.) 2 x Dual 150mm Compressed Coil Gun I with Antimatter...albeit after comparing stats between 150m vs Duals...not so certain I should do it. (used after 250mm's lose range)
Med slot: 1 x CL-5 Med. 1 x Shield Hardener depend on pirate type 1 x 10MN AB
Low slots:
Hybrid damage mods, power diags, reactor control units, warp core stabs etc. what ever is needed.

Since the Dual 150mm and 150mm have the exact same range I would use the single 150mm if you have to use even one low slot for mods/cpu mods with the Duals. If you can run that setup without grid/cpu mods use the the Duals for a slight edge on damage.
