Here`s a noob question for you all :)
A friend (out of corp for now-waiting til 24h timer ends) of mine was can flipped today. A russian in a Merlin.
The agression timer went up, the friend let it go. The merlin came back with a corpmate. Another merlin.
My friend was scrambed in his Hulk. He was tanking them well but then 30min later another merlin arrived, not in their corp, and managed to out-dps the tank.
Now I ask...
1. how does the agression timer sharing works? If someone is can flipped, and you fleet with them, can you shoot is agressor? 2. Had he been in my corp, would all my corp members been able to shoot the agressor? 3. How can an out of corp merlin (not related to the can flippers)attack him without retaliation from concord?
All this happened in 0.5 system.

What you're describing sounds like they found some sort of exploit, although, since we weren't there, probably nobody will believe it.
Guy steals your ore, don't do anything, and he shouldn't be able to attack.
If you take your ore back from HIS can, then he and his corp can attack you.
I don't know about 3, should be impossible.

The agression timer went up ...
If the aggression timer went up, that means your friend did something like steal the can-flipper's ore.
If the third merlin came along some time later and joined in without CONCORD intervention, it means that your friend was doing more than just tanking the damage. Was he continually stealing the can-flipper's ore back? Was he fighting the merlins with drones?
Where was his backup, is my next question? A hulk shouldn't have been sitting alone in a belt for half an hour without support of some kind. Unless the hulk pilot is suicidal of course.

He acted stupidly and paid for it. I was just making sure I understood the system to avoid mistakes.
After reading about it as I understand now...
1. Player A steals from a container belonging to any LSJV member Player A gets agression flagged toward LSJV.
2. Player B is ganged with Player C, both are from LSJV. Player B attacks Player A who is flagged. Player B gets agression flagged toward Player A. Player C is not flagged.
If a player is criminally flagged for stealing his corporation cannot help without Concord intervention. Is that right?

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 23/06/2008 06:45:21 The situation as stated by the OP makes no sense whatsoever, unless he kept taking back 'his' ore it's impossible what he describes. Billy's addition all of a sudden DOES make sense hehe (grats btw), it also shows a different scenario from the OP.
To answer your questions;
1) no, fleet has nothing to do with it, only player corp (alliance doesn't work either) 2) yes, but they would have to be there within the first 15 minutes 3) he couldn't, unless your friend was an idiot and had taken back from the other's can (also see #2)

I take offense to being called a caracal pilot.

Edited by: Halada on 23/06/2008 06:49:20 I wasn't jumping at any conclusions and did not have the whole story, hence why I came here to ask since I've lived in low-sec and 0.0 all my EVE life and didn't know how it worked.
I wonder though what kind of accomplishment suiciding a Hulk does? What do you get out of it? Is it the cool factor or is there ISK benefits attached to it? I'm not familiar with Empire piracy.
Thanks for clearing up the criminal flagging system then! Never had to bother in lowsec or 0.0 with that
Edit: So the flipper will turn flashy red to the whole corp then... that's cool!

That player was in a noob corp then so I suppose he could not get any help.
Nice loot though

What I don't get is why the Caracal had to join in, looking at the km the Merlin did just fine, besides Merlin should EASILY take out a Hulk with a sad tank.

Cant say, but now its clear what happened.
This is EASILY avoidable when you know what to do!
Guess he learned his lesson for acting rashly without information.

I guess he was just a tad short of being able to break the tank. You have to keep in mind that the merlin pilot in question is just a bit over 2 months old... -=^=-
