Are they allowed in Eve? And if so, which are useful, and where is a good place to find some?
Thanks :]

Modifying the client in any way, shape, or form, is against the EULA and you will be banned. Mods are illegal, we all have to use the User Interface provided by CCP.

Ah, I see. In some videos I've seen thouhg, I have seen the module buttons in the center icon. By that I mean, the buttons that are usualy to the right of your Shield, Armor, and Hull, are in the little circle thing themselves. I've also seen videos where it looked diffrent when people locked on to things.
I'm guessing maybe these were just videos of older clients of Eve?

I have also seen where players have what seems to be a blue half sphere in the bottom right of the screen. Has that been done away with too?

The blue half sphere was some form of in space RADAR that was used way back. It's since been removed, obviously..

I question your use of the term "used".

Just to avoid confusion, Mods are against the EULA which is contractual and not against the law which would be illegal. The police won't be kicking down your door but you will probably have your account cancelled and may find a lawsuit in a worse case scenario.

not if the Vivendi/blizzard vs. WoWGlider suit goes Vivendi's way, at least int he USA...
That would set a precedent (at least inthe US) that EULA/TOS agreements are the quivalent of formal, legal contracts, legally enforceable by lawsuits, police intervention, etc.
And if you think that would be limited to the USA alone...well, look at all the recent copyright stuff happening 'round the World because a couple of organizations in the USA saw a window to immense profits.
Link to Vivendi vs MDY Industries suit
Again, if Vivendi wins, TOS become legal contracts, and enforceable.

Would be too bad if you live in the US then. In most civilized countries contracts have to be fair to be enforceable (not completely one-sided as most EULA/TOS are).

No mods, at all. Banned by EULA/TOS
They may not be illegal as in police intervention, but violating the EULA/TOS can send you packing out of their game. __________________________________________________

"Most civilized countries", eh?
The DRM stuff is happening around the world as I speak, friend. Even countries such as Sweden are in essence getting rid of "fair use" in the one-sided copyright laws getting lobbied for all over.
Soon it'll be illegal to even use a DVR to watch shows when you want to. It's already being lobbied for, inthe EU as well as the USA and independent countries. There's already been a incident where the broadcast DRM flag has been used to prevent recording of some TV shows by nedia Center PCs and DVRs that use Media Center.
It's happening. And this suit is but one aspect of it.

I'm no lawyer but I think that the things enforceable by lawsuits and the things enforceable by arrest are two separate categories. I mean maybe they'll make it a civil offense that CCP can sue you for, but I doubt they'll be dragging people off to serve prison terms. That'd probably hurt their subscription numbers a bit. . Or open the doors for a new breed of hardcore MMORPGs. Commit a crime in the game and get caught and we'll have the arrested in the real life! |
