If you are asking and you think the best place to put the question is in new players, then im afraid you arent going to be getting that carrier any time soon.
Also, capitals are not solopwnmobiles, they are gang ships and deployed without support tend to die very quickly.
If you are really desperate to get a carrier or dread then i suggest you start by getting racial battleship 5 trained up for a start. Perhaps once you have that you'll be in a position to judge for yourself what the best path is. (Get the support skills first to make you more effective in the meantime)

the relevant Capital <weapon> skill
but unless you have got support they are not solo machines and will die quick to organised people.

Use EVEMon to see what skills you need. It might take a while. And remember: beeing able to fly it DOES NOT mean you can fly it properly (concerning supportskills etc.).

Maybe it is just me, but every time I see a capital ship thread in the newbie q&a it invokes a facepalm moment
