I finally became smart and started to buy station containers and such to organize my stuff; works great except searching for things that happen to be in those cans are a pain, which I don't mind. But what I do mind is that I have to make 20 jumps just to view the contents of a station container just to find out, nope, i don't have that in there...
Suggestion: Allow remote viewing of cans in a station.
Seems simple enough, and double clicking a container in station already opens the container, but nothing shows up...it's like it's almost there but not quite.

Can do it if you're in a corp/alliance with proper roles.

I don't want my personal items in the corp hanger. Search really should work on containers.
I've found this works very well though.

in game - preffered. im hate alt+tab. why every time when im need to do something realised in API i can't do it in game? pathetic.

Well, i know that i can see what members in our corp have in their personal hangars if they are stationed at one of our offices.

Yes this is true, but has nothing to do with the OP. He's talking about remotely viewing the content of the can's, that has nothing to do with lookin in your member's hangars and if your in the station that wouldn't be remote now would it.
I fully support this, my corp has stupid ammounts of assets in freight cans all over the galaxy, and its a pain in the ass to have to fly an alt around to when your looking fer something in a can.

I agree as well. This would be a useful feature ... but while we're asking, can we get the ability to move things into and out of cans remotely? I mean ... I can start production and research jobs at a range of 20 jumps, I can view the contents of my hangers from any distance. It'd be nice if I could pull BPOs out of a can from a distance and put them on my hanger floor so that I can start that manufacturing job and still have my unused BPOs neatly sorted/stored in a can.
This feature could also be nice for other features. How nice would it be to store all your usable ammo in one can, useable mods in another, and weapons, and have one for junk to be reprocessed. And then to be able to reprocess from anywhere in the region would make for a truely potent producer.
Of course, this takes away from the "travel" aspect of the game, but if there were a skill to train to offset this aspect, I'd train for it.
That's my 2 cents.
