Played some Age of Conan lately but quiet frankly the game isn't quiet out of beta yet imho - unblananced nerfs, missing content, not much endgame. Got bored and quit after a month.
SO coming back after a year or so of EVE hiatus I think I'm going to roll a new char to learn all the new tricks. I'd like to go and try some lowsec pirating as soon as possible, I'm probably going to train up Minmatar stuff.
Any advice or tips for some Rifter piracy ? :)
(Oh and since I'm already asking noob questions, what's FW, and what's the story on WCS - I thought they nerfed them good last time I checked. Nanos had fallen from grace for overdrives, what's the story here ?

FW is faction wars, you can find alot of info on it here: http://www.eve-online.com/empyreanage/index.html
There's plenty of good Rifter setups, you should check out the ship fittings index, or go to battleclinic.com and check out some loadouts.

I think if you stay in highsec and can flip people you will get better results, aka no one warping in a hac and just blowing you away. (I suppose they could but most highsec miners don't seem to have friends in hacs ready to go)
miners seem to make for good soft targets. sometimes they will bring out a frig/destroyer/cruiser, much softer targets than whats in lowsec. aka people don't tend to go mine/rat in lowsec in frigs/destroyers/cruisers.

If you go into low-sec in a rifter you will find very limited targets, with most people not going into belts anymore unless they are a bait for something more. Get ready to be ganked out of nowhere.
Other than that just have fun and welcome back whoever you are.

Yeah, WCS still have 50% penalties to targeting range and scan resolution, so you pretty much can't fit them on PvP ships. I'm not aware of any outstanding complaints against them or issues with them. One thing that might have changed between then and now is that the relatively new Heavy Interdiction Cruisers have the ability to use a so-called "infinipoint" warp disruptor, that allows them to tackle supercapitals and also puts an infinite number of points on a target so WCS are useless against them.

Heh - overdrives are still marginally better for increasing velocity, though in general a mix of the two will work out best; partly due to stacking penalties, and partly because raw speed won't do anything if you don't have the agility to maintain a good proportion of it in orbit.
But anyway, "nanos" now refers to the class of ships, or rather the style, of fitting exclusively for speed and relying on this (often with a shield extender buffer) to avoid the majority of damage, and reserve the right to disengage. We've always had whines about how nanoships were overpowered (especially when you start throwing in faction modules, Snake implants and mindlinked claymores - which 99% of the time were only found in EFT), but since FW was released and a lot of newer players were introduced to lowsec combat, there's been an amazing increase in the number of nanowhines.
So the term "nano" refers to the ship, not the module (though technically, its etymology rests with the Nanofiber Internal Structure from the days when they gave 10m/s speed boost each as well as the mass reduction).

Can flipping is your best bet for early piracy. You can get fights with barges and up to battleships if you **** off the right people. See thread, "can flipping" for my take on the matter.
