does it really matter where you place your guns? i would assume you place them near the control tower(20k that is). basically though you could just clump all your guns up in 1 spot and be fine right? Mission running: not as exciting as smashing your hand with a hammer, but more painful. |

i would recommend spreading thenm out as clumped together might expose them to a smart bomb attack, i tend to place them 3000km apart and around the webber's,sensor dampeners ect, but certainly not in a clump.....

you need to cover as many angles as you can since the pos ammo will not go trough the pos shield

I set up 3 or more groupings that are spread out so smart-bombing can't take them all out.
I also use energy nuets and E-war with a few guns, my towers can't damage much but no one can fight them because of all the E-war and energy draining. Makes it a standoff, that they are paying 200 million a week to play.
Only twice have the towers been sieged and twice they left after taking heavy losses due to me manning the guns.

Can anyone confirm/deny this? It seems very strange as we have no problem shooting through anything else, roids, stations, etc.

false. Maybe once the case a long time ago, but not now.
However covering more angles will minimise the ability of someone to keep a high transversal to all guns.
Keep them as close to the POS as it will allow, spread them out into 3-5 groups, top/bottom and around the middle of the tower. This also makes it harder for hostiles to setup in their optimal range from 'all' the guns, they need to move around or hit outside their optimal to hit them all then.

A long time ago they couldn't shoot through roids, and missiles would go around them, but this was changed as obviously it was a significant lag generator.

Someone a while back suggested putting a group at the top, and another at the bottom. Then place a few smalls around the middle. This keeps it so you get longer range, not like you'll probably need it. But, the smalls around the mid are for the little ships that are trying to orbit so you waste ammo. I haven't tested this setup in practice, but in theory it sounds good.

I agree. Clumping everything together is asking for trouble.
Try this...
POS gun/ewar positions
Guns and ewar mods at the "poles", and spread evenly around the "equator" of your POS bubble should give you excellent coverage against attackers from nearly every angle of approach.
