Minmatar Cruisers and Frigs are pretty top notch, however their battleships are lacking when it comes to fleet engagements. I want to pick another race to cross train, and can't decide which one takes advantage of the same skills. I am stuck between either Amarr or Caldari, but wouldn't rule out Gallente either considering what race I go with will probably end up being my carrier choice as well.

Amarr really shine in fleet combat. No reloading, and no worry about running out of ammo. The apocalypse has an optimal range bonus and can dish out some nice damage. The Rokh has great range, but the damage isnt great. Megathrons are popular for their tracking bonus (a big plus in fleet combat). Ultimately I would recommend Amarr or Gallente, and lean more towards amarr.

So, Amarr (and the Apoc in particular) is where it's at for fleet combat. The Apoc is quite literally better than every other ship in virtually every possible way in fleet combat. At least part of this is due to certain stacking penalties related to Locus rigs.
Now, then there's the Rokh and Scorpion. The Rokh is a good ship, but lacks damage. Additionally, a Tach Apoc can hit any reasonable optimal that the Rokh will, and hit it with significantly more damage. IMO, the Rokh is totally outclassed.
BUT the Scorpion, OTOH, makes Caldari BS5 worth having. The Scorpion is the only pure PVP battleship in the game, and it really shows when you're out on the field.
Best of luck with your decision. :)

Minmatar battleships are fine! They have huge alfalfa which makes up for their poor DPS!!!!11one
Anyway, I'd choose amarr personally. The apoc is now sex for fleet ops, the geddon is great for small gang, and they're all very good at missions and PvE, if you consider that as well. As a minnie specced pilot, I'm currently training amarr too.

Gallente. As a bonus you get access to the Vindicator and Machariel along with it.

If what you want is a long range sniper, amarr is probably the top of the food chain, if you'd prefer some versatility with your choice caldari would probably offer the most in that area as you'd get 2 fleet ships out of the deal.

If you are looking at the Mach and Vindi and can afford to fly them a lot, then Gallente. The Megathron is perfectly fine for fleet work, the Domi is really great to contrast to a Typhoon and so on. It also gives you a much better Capital race to train.
Amarr have the Apoc for fleet which is hands down the best for range/damage perportions. The Geddon is a great pvp battleship and the Abaddon has the highest BB alpha. Pretty sweet in the Capital department too. . .
Even the Caldari have better battleships then the Minmatar. . .and thats saying a lot. But capitals are meh due to the price of shield mods. ----

Right slight ignorance aside, Vindicator and Mach are the best thing that will come out of training for gal and min bs. With my char I have 16 mil in gunnery (small med large art and ac spec lv5) and the machariel is a ****en beast. Get decent gunnery skills in proj/blasters and u will have fun with both races and there faction ships.

The question is:
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO?
Training for another BS class with intention to Large T2 turrets, brings you very close to fully utilizing many-many other turret ships - BCs and of course roughly 25D away from HASs, HICs and CS should you already had em for you own race - Same goes for logistics, recons etc, tho you wan't take advantage of the cross trained gunnery skills.
* So if you like Harbingers and possibly Zealots + abso, those should also come into considerations when choosing say Apoc, Geddon etc Amarr BS + T2 Large Lasers. The Sacrilege is nice IF you already have missile skills, tho the Zealot rocks.
* If you like Eagles, Feroxes etc it should be a shame not to go for them if you would like a Rokh (naaa, Apoc + zealot hands down)...U will unlock the Raven and possibly the Golem that rule for ratting and mission running tho...hope u have some torp / cruise skills for your phoon...
* Gallente are fun, and I would go for Gallente in you case IF you had T2 Heavy drones or at least respectable Drone skills to go for the Domi and Ishtar. Drone skills are nice addiction and support most of your T2 Minie cruisers, just as the Typhoon, and you won't have to train for T2 Hybrids if you DON'T want to cross train for a fleet-BS anyways.
----
I do believe that Minie BSs are NOT broken for fleet-fights. They do "deliver" pain against other BSs and smaller targets, where numbers and high alpha strikes >> DPS. If you want the Best BS for POS shooting and cap killin + proper range and alpha, then yes, the Apocalypse is the all-around winner. Note that I do not fly Minie BSs, tho corp-mates DO and like em in all-but extreme laggy situations. Join the Biggest Greek Corp! www.Mythos-eve.com - Join Mythos Channel in game! |

Caldari BS skill lets you use the missile skills you probably already have. Once you have that, then start training for large hybrids and you are well on the way to probably the best sniper in the game - the Rokh.

Tough it out, the game has been progressing away from minmatar BS for a while now. Boost will come eventually. Gone are the days of tempest alpha strike and wildcard ecm slot *sigh*
Our strong cruisers seem to make it take forever to get other ship classes looked at though :(

I Love my Typhoon!! Hell i fly my Phoon to the store to get milk....kick the drones out at the door and cruise the lot, listening to tunes ( did i mention that Mini have the best stereo systems) till the drones get back.
Having said that... i crossed to Gallente for the armor tanking gunboats. Like what was previously stated, its all a matter of what you want to do with the new boats and what skills you have that they take advantage of.
