I have just discovered, might be old news to some of you. That SpaceX Has two engine designs for there "FALCON" launch vehicle.
The first engine is call the "MERLIN"
And the second is call the "KESTREL"

In both cases (eve as well) they are named after rolls royce aero engines. They are probably the greatest aircraft engines ever made, powering half all allied aircraft in world war 2 (spitfire, hurricane, mustang et all).
RR piston engines were named as follows - Falcon, eagle, buzzard, vulture, merlin (most famous) , kestrel, hawk, condor, Griffon. The only RR engine names not now caldari ship names (yet) are the goshawk and the perrigrine. |
