Sentry guns, power/shield generators, field repair mini-stations, mobile refineries. We are still working out the last tidbits of how they can be over taken, what is the penalty of having a sentry gun kill a n00b etc. and we have been a bit busy with plugging the holes that people have found.I would say that you'd start to see these items on the market in about 2-3 weeks, very expensive to begin with
Feel free to take a look at the recorded log over at Eve-Gate
It would be nice to get shiva in before the 1 year anniversary of their announcement that we would have Player Owned Stations, however, it doesnt seem like that will happen .

So, they've been busy, can you not see hard work all around you from EVE last year to EVE today? POS will come when its ready.
And dont quote people from a year back, thats not cool man.

IIRC, they pretty much scrapped the original designs for player-owned stations, and re-designed it from the groud up to be the "modular" stations we will have in Shiva.
Redesigning something like that from the ground up takes time, so cut em some slack.

I have no idea why CCP should work "hard" on this as you claim.
-Eve is doing GREAT atm. More people online than ever...in fact almost more than the current hardware can handle. Latest crisis was may 14..remember? -Lot of customers paying. Paychecks secure. No reasons to introduce any new content until it starts hurting economy wise. -Patches/add'ons/expansions...all are "goodies" that a developer can easily (and most often will) release in gradually to get maximum effect. Parents can probably relate to giving kids candy. You dont give out the entire bag immidiately even though you might have it. Kids shut up when they are eating candy. Silence is nice. Give them a little candy everytime they start to whine and you are 1 happy parent. Ok I'm overdoing it but you get my meaning. -12 months have passed since release. I have seen every phase of the game since jan 03. 80% of the changes are just tweaks with little development effort needed.
Bottom line: CCP has no real incentive to work hard or fast right now.

Great post, about time others hold these Devs to their word.
For the Lemmings who tell Kalki to quit trolling the devs, here is some information you need to learn:
Words having meaning
You do not promise doing a feature unless you plan on doing it. For example, It would be nice if Castor was really the TECH 2 Patch with Guns, ships, and missiles.
I would not hold your breath with Shiva, it will be the half-arse patch like Castor.

Edited by: Kalki Nibiru on 17/05/2004 18:26:36 The devs need to be accountable, and they havent. Whether or not they chose to make Player Owned Stations better by creating a modular design (which I do think is much better), we were promised in Beta that POS's would be released shortly after retail, the delays kept mounting and now we have "soon".
These ones are also from the May 29th chat:
Quote: Feature #2: Different types of NPC pirates (miners). When entering an asteroid belt you wouldnÆt just encounter the combat pilots, but also miners, possibly industrials, drones, etc.
<Wolfgang> <Axor> is it really necessary to have npc pirates all over the EVE universe? Could a system not be put in place were by you need a certain level of skill(s) and equipment to mine higher-level ores? <TomB> Pirates share the same interests as players on the ore - they, who control the ore, control the world and you will soon see NPC miners from various factions in mining activities
I wouldnt think it would take over a year to ballance some Mining NPC's, would you?
Quote:
<Wolfgang> *gaia-* I¦ve heard that there are more ships on the drawing board, is this true? If yes, will the skill required for those ships be e.g. frigate level 4 and 5 for piloting those ships? Hence the max now is level 3? Maybe you could give a little peak of such a ship? <Solaris_CCP> Yes the rumor is true; technical research is being made in various areas of frigate construction expect new models to appear in stores soon. Very interesting stuff I can tell you
Please bear in mind I went through all the CSM chats up until the end of September last year (I did the research around the same time), I dont remember exactly when Interceptors were put in game, but I do know that we didnt see them until the new year. So that is 7 months of not having any new ships, despite Solaris telling us they will be appearing "soon".
Does "soon" mean 7+ months? So far it appears so.
Quote:
<Wolfgang> *gaia-* Implants? Will they be implemented anytime soon? How is it going to work? When "fitting", will you be able to choose where on the body a curtain implant will be (such as brain, eyes, torso...) corresponding to its task? Some implant will affect attributes, others skills, or some both? Can you replace an implant with another once attached? Will Jove stations be the only place to get an implant in? <Solaris_CCP> Implants are already implemented and are in testing and balancing currently. There are 5 "slots" to fit implants. Implants both boost attributes and give direct bonuses such as combat damage and ship speed. I say 2-3 weeks for implants
Sure we have them now, but we didnt have them until around september or october. For something that was "already implemented and are in testing and balancing currently" I am amazed they took around 4 months to get into the game.
Here is one from the August 7th chat:
Quote:
TomB > tech level II for example will be introduced very shortly TomB > new ships as well
Well solaris said the new ships would be in "soon" 2 months ago, and here tomb said that T2 would be introduced shortly and we would have new ships as well. For those of you who are short in memory, T2 didnt come until late december. That is 4+ months since he said "very shortly", and really the amount of T2 was slow to come in, hell, we dont have all to much now, and as for the new ships, they werent seen for another month or two, thats around 4-5 months for something that was to be released "very shortly".
Dont paint me as an angry subscriber, because I'm not. I love this game and I think the devs are doing a decent job, however, they need to be held accountable to what they say. For those who think quoting what people say from over a year ago isnt "cool", please, whatever you do in your life, dont vote. Do not ever even think of trying to think you know about anything because you obviously dont know how important it is for people to be trusworthy, credible, and accountable for their actions.

Elite 4 in development - yay
They should take their time over it.
I remember all the bugs in Frontier
I have my boxed copy of Eve from a year ago. Anyone want a real out of date manual? - hehehehe Then there was a player guide that was out of date as soon as it was released. Lessons learned here i think
Patches are great in the long run, a great advantage over the consoles. More and more games are works in progress, constantly patched and updated.
Manuals can come in updated pdf documents.
maybe the days of buying boxed copies of games with paper manuals are coming to a close, except for flight sims.
i've bought games over the net for some time now, either order online and delivered or download and pay for online with no boxed copy at all.
It's been ages since i walked into a shop and bought a game (the old skool way) |

Edited by: Fuse on 18/05/2004 10:42:17 Does this happen in all MMORGs? This is just the kind of thing that ****ed me off about EnB. Instead of developing they just keep spinning their wheels on balance changes. Who even gives a rats a$$ about Bloodlines one year after the game is released? Man I want to see some cool stuff really getting tired of waiting for it. Most vet players are loosing their patience with CCP and the waiting. Not attacking anyone just pointing out what it is like for us veterans. I wanted to see Titans and JumpDrives because of the sick amount of travel time in the game. Getting people to one spot takes allot of time realy takes away from the game. The skill has been around forever for the jumpdrives yet there is no jumpdrive. I better stop this before I say something nasty here. 0.o It's not you... no wait it is you. |

well to all those who say 'lay off ccp they have been busy' or the 'it will come when its ready' club...have u ever been in the business world? you cant tell a customer 'yes sir we will have your order ready in 3 days' and then not deliever it for a year...if it did happen you think ppl would continue to work with that business?...game r different i know but still they should not be making dates for a release then not having it ready and give some lame excuse like soonÖ...they have been pushing everything back into shiva...well its the end of may..where is shiva?...castor was a complete bust and tech 2 is a total joke..i know ppl who have been doing research for 5 months and have gotten nothing!!!!
....now they are releasing all kinds of new info on shiva...great...that just makes everyone want it more and its an indication that it wont be out till october...if then...and what r they doing...worrying about if they should make mines deployable or not...rofl...joke right? how about releasing the game we bought that is advertised on the box...now that would be some thing to cheer for.

We were told in a csm/dev chat that Shiva was going to hit May.
Quote: Eve Online, one of the most popular MMORPGÆs currently in existence, is receiving a new injection of features in its expansion pack slated for release in Q3 of 2004, codenamed Shiva.
wtf? i have to read this type of news on another site?(Filefront) why wasn't this in a dev blog?

Yup, but I think your forgetting that we are not simple kids... kids don't have to pay for the candy. We are customers, and do have to pay for this game every month (at least I do). If we get bored of no new content on a frequently basis we move on, simple as that .

Yeah, you know what really gets me irked? The fact that we asked about Shiva info and they said something to the effect of 'we'll see what we can do' and we get nothing. What happens instead is a subscribing customer links to Fragland for some new info on Shiva, this wasnt much, it was just some info about bloodlines so it didnt bother me too much that CCP didnt let us (or Eve-I) in on the info first, but the next day we found out that not only did Fragland have an article, but File Front had a fairly in depth one, did we hear it from CCP first? No, we had to have a member post it on the forums first, then have it stickied, then have it on the front page. I'm quite apalled that the people who pay money to play the game had to find out from someone other than CCP. I'm really saddened that they didnt give Eve-I this information so they could post up some exclusive news for the community, hell, I would have settled for CCP to update their shiva section.
This is a great game though, I have to hand it to the devs, but I cant help but think their work ethic isnt as good as it should be, and if it isnt their work ethic, its their management. Remember, we make you tell us "XYZ is going to be out in 2-3 weeks", that was CCP's decision.

I am part of a sucessfull business that deals with software issues like this on a day to day business. If our developers ever had to read the dribble that is regularily on these boards I would bet that their productivity would nose dive. Got to hand it to the eve devs, they did an awe-inspiring job here!
But I guess working on their dream job (who wouldn't want to code on this?) is offset with dealing with the unprofessional nature of gamers.
My advice to the devs, stay away from the forums!

Edited by: Lysithea on 19/05/2004 03:23:45 Whether the game is doing well or poorly, making money or not, rich in features or lacking; the developers have lost a significant amount of credibility by telling players that something was coming when it wasn't. It's just that simple. Either you continue playing or you don't. Those of us that have played Eve for a long time know one thing: if a developer says something is coming, you would be well advised to doubt it. I do.

no i see it this way... instead of saying when things are going to come out... they should just keep posting there progress so that players can see what is going on and that things are moving along, and we will see when things are ready our selves without having, count on words like ya this month we hope soon(tm) or a bunch of ideas that they said would come into the game and then when a patch does come out, we never hear a word as to why it didnt make it and if it will be considered in other patches. support Idea: QuickInfo an alternative to ShowInfo
