I heard people say it was easy. I figure they were talking about diplomacy skill. Mine puts several over 2, but to join it seems you need the .5 base standing.
Aaand after 1 storyline mission im only at .04
Sooo wtf is the secret to getting standings quickly with a new character?

Alternatively, just grind out a few storyline missions. If you run lvl1 missions, you can whiz through the required 12(?) missions to get that storyline offer in almost no time. ------

COSMOS missions, each gives faction boost(or last in line of 3-5 missions), way more effective then grind for standard storylines

I think 2 level 1 storyline missions of average difficulty will get you from nothing to 0.5 faction standing. That's 3 2 level 1 missions to run (plus the two storylines), shouldn't take more than a few hours. |

I will take your word for it. I never saw a need to try. I have simply done it for others. Smartbombing Level 1's and not looting or salvaging worked for me. |

Quickest way is to go to the data centers linked in the 1st reply, buy tags and give them to the agents, but the price of those tags unsurprisingly shot through the roof because of the expansion.
If you want to do it cheaply, only talk to the "Graduation Certificate" agents and do their missions. There are 3 different agents for each faction that want the certificates.
That opens up a nearby event agent (listed on the certificate). Run their missions. Do that both for your preferred faction and their allied faction (gallente/minmatar or amarr/caldari). You can do this only once per faction
That should either put you at the required +0.5 or very close to it. Training up the skill "Social" beforehand is a good idea, since each standings increase will be a larger amount than it would be without the skill.
If you still aren't at +0.5, then find a noob school station and do the tutorial agent missions. That should put you over the top.
Quote: Skill at social interaction. 5% bonus per level to NPC agent, corporation and faction standing increase.
I did this on an alt recently and it took me 9 man hours, most of which was flying from one agent to the next.

Your thinking of corp standings. You can fast track a new player to better agents by sharing the mission rewards but not a storylines faction standing rewards. This of course will help them to get thier own faction up by letting them use better agents on thier own. Also train the skill 'Social' to 4 asap as it gives a bonus to faction standing gain and not derived standings like the other social skills that modify your base standing.

I knew faction came from the storyline or mail to missions. I wasn't sure if group got shared as missions counting up to the next mail to though.
To the guy crying about nooblets not being able to get in to FW fast enough. It would take a week if you took your time. What do you plan to then do with a week old toon in FW? Besides get farmed by just about everyone you encounter?

I can tackle right now, if I could get the goddamn faction.
I did both amarr and caldari graduation missions and im only at freakin .23 amarr. Only 7 storyline missions to go, or 112 mission grinds.
This faction grind bull**** is ***. Way to go ccp on your "PvE so you can PvP" campaign. |

really easy fix would be for every character to get +0.5 standing with thier own race. new players could join fw immeaditly. and old players would get the boost too. |

Level 1 missions only take a few minutes each. You'll be surprised how quickly you get those 112 done.
Also you'll need some ISK to buy ships/ammo.
Mission LP are useful for getting cheap faction ammo too. |

What systems in Gallente space are these agents located in? I've been grinding lvl 1 and lvl IV missions to get storylines - I've so far gone from a -1.61 to a -.81...real pain in the ass.

Faction standing uses your base standing - not what social or diplomacy give you (i'm pretty sure anyway)..so it may take a bit..

Edited by: Mithfindel on 30/06/2008 18:29:09 Since people don't seem to be able to read, here's a quick run-thru of the very basic social skills:
Social - Increases standings gain. This is useful for FW preparations, since it makes you gain faction faster
Connections - gives a bonus to positive standings. Does not help for FW (since you need a base standing of 0.5), but if you're making money, it helps you get higher level agents faster. Most effective at low positive standings.
Diplomacy - gives bonus to negative standings. You need this skill if you want to go faction-hopping. Do note, if you get below -5.0 base standing, you're screwed (unless you manage to be taken in to some of their player-run faction warfare corps and capture complexes so that your standings raise again).
Negotiation - more ISK from the same job
Edit: For post structure and clarity

There might actually be a benefit to running missions repeatedly to increase standing, especially if you're a new character. It gives you experience with combat against NPCs - essential for running plexes and taking systems. It also builds up your ISK reserves, which is vital, since making money from FW isn't easy. ____________________________________ Caldari by birth, Minmatar by citizenship.
