In the real world, alot of merchants will advertise that if you buy stuff in bulk from them, you will save money. Things like, "buy 9 of such and such and get the 10th one free" are fairly common place. Why not bring this to eve.
Imagine this: I'm a merchant, I have 10 million rounds of cataclysm cruise missiles to sell. I go to Ren's or, dare I say, Jita (and some how survive the gank squads). I take my merchandise, click sell items. The window pops up and I expand the view so I can set the price and what not.
I notice a new option in the window. This option would look something like this:
For every X bought by individual, X% (or X number of items) will be taken off (or given freely).
IE:
For every 1000 units of Catacylsms bought, 10% of total value is taken off.
For every 1000 units of Catacylsms bought, 100 rounds are given.
This could also have a time limit on it, IE you could set the "Deal" to only last an hour, a day, a week, or the entire time the order is up.
Its obvously a rough idea but just a thought on a way to give merchants alternatives to selling their stuff other than undercutting every 5 seconds. |

This would at minimun double existing market window load (lag).
So, no.

Simpler implementation: minimum quantity.
Buy orders already have this; you can set a minimum amount that someone must sell you. For this, someone can create an order selling for a low price, but you set your minimum amount higher so that the item must be purchased in bulk.
The only issue with this is that it clogs up order screens, and people will see a price but, oh, dang, it's a huge volume order. If the order screen had properly sorting columns, it would work fine, though.
/signed, at least my own idea ;-)

This already happens, except as with real life transactions it happens between seller and buyer. You negotiate, and for that you need to socially interact with the seller. |

Just set the price lower. Is that hard? ______________________________________

Heh, doesn't mean you didn't have the idea.
This would have the additional effect of declogging Jita. No, really, hear me out: most large-scale producers hate waiting for people to buy little tidbits. So, traders can go into Jita, buy the big volumes for cheap, and then sell for smaller volumes in other areas for a profit. Sure, they could buy the high volume immediately and sell for higher with no volume limit at the same station again, but then they have to put up with waiting and readjusting their order constantly, and the original seller still gets what he wants. Everyone wins. |

Except that most of the players don't want to trade. They want the items for themselves, there, immediately, and that's it. Most of the players aren't silly carebears you know.

You might want to check that. |
