Are there any plans to have an astrometrics cruiser or battleship? perhaps this could be an idea for an attitional model of the recon and Black ops ships? It would be nice if I had a ship I could actually complete sites with after I probe them out instead of having to bookmark then go get my combat ship. |

We don't need anything bigger than a frigate. It's supposed to be a specialized craft. Having fully combat ready probing ships would be overkill. _____________ Hai. |

We could use a specialized ship to hunt down cloakers. (Atleast, I sure could...) And I hear Black Ops kind of suck at what they currently do. |

Not having to drop off the anathema to pick up an omnipresent boring ass Raven, to clean out my RADAR plexes would be a boon. Paying 1`000`000`000 ISK for a T2 battleship that can probe and pew at the same time wouldn't, on the other hand. |

A tackle-ready prober would be nice, but honestly, you can just gang warp a ceptor in with you.
Or, god forbid, put tackle gear on your cov ops.

They would be built on the Tier 2 battleships (Myrmidon, Harbinger, Drake and Hurricane) and Have several bonuses making them useful for scanning and combat.
Let's give an Example.
[Gallente: Nereid Deep-Space Science Vessel]
Requirements: BC V, Gallente Cruiser V, Astrometrics V, Science Vessels I.
While not granted as much pure firepower as it's base ship the Myrmidon, the Nereid is capable of fielding an even greater madd of drones, and gives up it's weapons space for advanced Sensor suites and probe bays. It also gives up it's turrets in favor of missile bays, which require much less room and allow the interior mass of the ship to be lowered.
Developer: CreoDron
With Probe use in mind, Creodron produced a heavy Electronic warfare ship, that would be able to defend itself adequatley with it's own small fleet of drones. In return for enhanced drone interface technology, even over the Myrmidon, it lost much of it's standard firepower, and no longer fits turrets, but had it's skin hardened to compensate.
Gallente Cruiser Skill Bonus: 5% bonus to Armor resistances and 10% bonus to drone hitpoints and damage per skill level.
Battlecruisers Skill Bonus: 5% bonus to missile velocity and +25 m3 extra Drone Bay space per level
Special: 60% reduction to duration/activation time of modules requiring Astrometrics.
--------- powergrid output 1000 Low Slots 5 Med Slots 5 High Slots 8 CPU Output 500 Launcher hardpoints 4 Turret hardpoints 0
Shield Capacity 2000 EM: 0% KINETIC: 76% THERMAL: 20% EXPLOSIVE: 50% Recharge: 1,400 Sec.
Armor Hitpoints 4550 EM: 20% KINETIC: 35% THERMAL: 40% EXPLOSIVE: 10%
Max Velocity: 140m/s Drone Capacity: 50m3 Cargo Capacity: 380m3 Mass: 14,000,000 KG. Volume: 150,000m3.
Capacitor Capacity: 3000. Recharge Time: 950 Seconds.
Maximum Targetting Range: 65km Scan Resolution: 150mm Signature Radius: 400 (< Big Electronics boat, big sig radius)
Calibration: 400 Rigs: 2

I really like this idea, though I think a bit steeper skill requirements would be needed so it becomes more of a specialized ship, and something which takes a good ammount of time to fly. Things like Electronic Upgrades V, maybe some other electronic skills, nothing too steep, but enough to keep everyone from having one. I like the idea a lot though, and I think your ship suggestion is great.

Wait, a Helios could be fitted out to do this?
Could you tell me how to fit it?
I'm new at this game and I was planning on getting into exploration and I was looking exactly for this - a ship that I wouldn't have to switch.

I am thinking something designed to be the next step up from the CovOps astro. I will have to expand my thought on what the ship would have to be like, but I am definately thinking the covOps cloak, and an astrometric bonus, similar to the cov ops now. I'll come up with a setup when I get home from work

The science bc is a cool idea, something like a mini-marauder with enough CPU for recon / scan probe launchers, maybe 4 medium weapons with 100% role damage bonus, and expensive, maybe 300 million isk or something |

Edited by: Amastat on 01/07/2008 08:13:46 Sounds like the OP just basically wants the ultimate exploration ship that has both the PvE'ing and probing capability all rolled into one.
I never really done exploration before, but have you tried getting a SoE probe launcher, in combination with Gravity Capacitor Rigs? Or would this gimp the PvE'ing fit too badly?
Personally, I wouldn't mind such a ship - but it could make things way too easy for explorers maybe? I don't know, never tried it before so I really have nothing to base any sound judgement on the matter.
Even if it did make things a lot easier for explorers, I would imagine they would still always have the potential of being probed and ganked in lowsec/0.0 - I'm sure all the true yarrs shouldn't really complain about the idea of CCP placing high-powered carebear magnets in deep lowsec/0.0
Such a battleship could also be fitted into a yarr boat too I bet - you can have raiding groups made up strictly of these ships, no more, "Ugh - 3 carebears in the same pocket here; why didn't one of us bring a covert ops!?" ____________________

The key problem here is your ship is in fact built for combat more than science.
You give a tank bonus, a DPS bonus in the form of bonused drones, a range bonus (which is entirely out of character for Gallente, especially when you consider it to be a missile range bonus at that). The Drone bay bonus expands the combat utility and flexability enormously.
I understand the idea - to build a combat ready Scouting craft but you have to understand those two tasks are kept seperate for a very good reason. If a single person could effecively probe and gank targets that they find it doens't inspire team play. A ship such as this would find it's home hunting war targets solo, griefing player corps and probably a fair amount of piracy depending upon it's price point.
I don't agree with the road your advocating but if the task was given to me to design a basic ruleset I would use a destroyer not a BC. The reason is the Destroyer classic role in warfare is to combat Subs - the epitome of stealth in modern combat. You can give the ship fair amounts of firepower and tanking bonuses and you do not inheritly break combat - the ship would still succumb to heavy combat ready targets but if it could snag and kill cov ops ships and the occasional recon you are fufilling your purpose. If you want a ship that can hunt down and kill most any other ship out there (which is what you essentially advocate - a mini Domi/Big Ishtar with badass probing capabilities) then you're trying to design a solopwnmobile - somethign that I understand the Devs have tried to eradicate for quite some time. |

That is why I posted my version of the ship.. Its based on the recon ships that are already available, I just did less guns and less DPS boost and swapped those for scanning. I know that for most plexes, 1 med launcher, 2 med guns and 40m3 of drones wouldn't be enough, but for the smaller ones it would be worth it in my opinion. I agree with your though that Cyver is trying to make too powerful of a ship.

*nods* I was actually thinking something like the T1 astro frigates so a total reduction of 25%. That would leave the covert ops as the 'best' prober (though why a spy ship is ideal for exploration always seems like a bit of a mis-design) but gives a more 'all in one' solution for those who want it.
I am actually getting ready to start exploration and will probably end up just using a normal BC rather then a astro-frigate/Covert ops for just this reason.
