The question is, does using a t2 item as the "base item" give any bonus to invention? I remember there being a mention about it before but I don't recall what it said exactly. Does it give you a bonus equal to a Meta 4 item or does it have absolutely zero meta value when used for invention? |

I would read the sticky, perhaps use the search function and go check out chrukers site.
Using a base item for invention would really skew the costs and like other things in game is a hidden tax on people who can't or won't do math. |

You can't use a T2 item as the base item.... or you couldn't, it was a tech 1 version of the module and like you pointed out needs to be meta 4 or lower. |

Invention chance meta levels needs to be 4 or less T2 is Meta level 5

To be more precise:
Meta level of that "base item" cannot be same or above of the item you are inventing. |

haha, is that thing correct? Using a t1 item such as a standard, non named, heavy launcher is equal to using absolutely nothing?
Also when did CCP publish the formula for invention??? |

CCP haven't published the formula, so either that guy knows something that he shouldn't or it's just a good guess. Regardless if using a T1 module is equal to using nothing or not, given the amount of trials that have been run by now showing it to be 0 or almost 0 influence, it certainly won't be worth it if it did give some tiny difference. |

Chruker has done several thousand invention jobs, at various levels skills and reverse engineered the formula - not it may not be 100% accurate but it seems to be damn close and it is in the style of eve formulas |

CCP Greyscale once said when the cargosize of mobile labs was increased that it was done because Battleships could be added as base items for invention in stations, and denying this possibility from mobile lab invention would make them fool-proof.
How you personally rate this hint is up to you of course, but personally I go for "meta 0 doesn't do anything worthwile". |

From my teste using metaitem 0 items when inventing something make a difference if there are less than the full list of possible named metaitem.
I.E. a item with metaitem 1-2-3-4 available will not receive a bonus, a item with metaite, 2 and 4 only receive a increase in invention chance. It is about 105 of the base invention chance (my test item give a 47,61% success chance without the metaitem 0 item, 52,82% with the metaitem 0 item). |
