Science... Battlecruiser...
Somehow, it doesn't seem quite right.
Yeah, that's as silly as a "battleship" being used for "black ops", or something.
I like the idea of a dedicated exploration ship, if only because it's a pain to run back and forth with different ships when a site comes up. To keep the CovOps valid, I'd suggest a 5% / level bonus to scan time. So a CovOps is still superior, especially for scanning out players in a hurry. Or maybe a 10% / level bonus that applies to Cosmic Anomalies and Cosmic Signiatures only--select anything else in your scan, and you lose the bonus.
Also, a skill-based bonus to success rate of salvaging, archaeology & hacking. --------------- ""Minimum collateral damage" and "Entire star system" do not belong in the same sentence." |

A command ship is not a combat ship either, not by design. However, this ship is superior to a command ship for ganking mission runners. It has a better than covert ops scan time bonus. Quest probes are excellent at scanning down mission runners, as any salvage ninja can tell you.
Hrm. Perhaps I am missing a mechanical detail here. To the best of my knowledge ninja salvagers use recon probes (fathom/ferret/snoop/spook) not quest probes. Quest probes take longer to process, have to be set up around a bunch of planets, and then would only catch missions that are close to a planet in the first place (which many are not).
Quote:
This ship has four utility high slots, that's 3 neuts/nos or 2 and a cloak, and it still does 8 turrets worth of damage.
Which follows the pattern of the Maurder. So if this design is flawed and would cause X problem the maurder should cause it many times worse.
Hrm. Does anyone still use neut/nos anymore? I thought most people stopped after they got nerfed a while back.
Quote: You are talking about a stealth warship and insisting it be superior to a covert ops? That comparison makes no sense!
Why do you keep adding 'stealth' into the conversation? This ship is no more stealthy then any other flying brick in this game.
And yes, it should be superior to the covert ops in this role, it is DESIGNED to be. The covert ops ships are not exploration ships, they just happen to get a bonus that helps explorers.

Tell me again why a "Science Vessel" needs guns.
I still don't get why you're modeling a "non-PVP" ship after the Covert Ops, Black Ops Battleship, and Marauder, three of the most effective PVP ships in the game.
How about this: a new battlecruiser with no weapons, no drones, just a really tough tank and a bonus to using hackers/salvagers/analyzers, one built to do the science and possibly able to ignore the rats.
PS: Yes, Quest probes are the only way to go if you're trying to get a hit on a mission runner masked by deadspace. Recon probes are for finding people in normal space, for example in safe-spots.

A possible modification would be to give it something more of an ECM-type tank that'd only work on ships targeting it. Like a targeting system feedback pulse. Blind them with Science!

Because in EvE science involves shooting people?
Though this is why I've preferred the idea of an astrometrics/exploration ship as opposed to 'science'.

Marauders are more of a PvE ship, no? I've always read them as CCP's attempt to satisfy the demand for a salvage ship for mission runners, which is why I used them as a basic pattern for how an exploration BC might look/behave.

It would have to have an insane tank, but that idea has potential.

Hrm. That does change things then. I was under the impression you used recon probes for finding people in deadspace too (assuming they are using drones) but I was unaware that exploration probes could be used to find the deadspace pocket it'self.
In which case yeah, I don't see a way of doing this unless there are some mechanical seperations between exploration complexes and mission runner deadspace pseudo-instances.

I suggested one just above you--a scantime bonus that only applies to Cosmic Signiature / Anomaly scans. --------------- ""Minimum collateral damage" and "Entire star system" do not belong in the same sentence." |
