im gettin more isk from my ore before i refine it than after, am i doing something wrong or is it just the current prices at the station im running from?

Get your refining skills up, and run missions for the coporation that runs the station you are refining your ore in.
Refining lowers "unrecoverable"
Standing lowers "we take" |

You have in fact done something right, you realised this, a lot don't !!
Do as others have said here and train up refining skills and get standings up with the npc corps to reduce tax's.

on a side note, whats the deal with mining drones?
I deployed one and it just flew around even though i set it to mine repetedly, is it ment to have a mining lazer like my ship?
i havnt seen anyone else use em in teh astroid belts so im wondering if they are a waste of time?

I'm not a fan of drones. Seems to be that the belt rats target them pretty frequently, so I'm always micor managing them or replacing them. Basiaclly, they do just circle stuff. They circle the asteroid 'gathering' then they come to you, then they circle the asteroid 'gathering'... rinse and repeat.

Do train drones but use combats instead of miners. Mining drones are in my opinion useless when compared to the amount of ore a hulk can rip out of an asteroid belt whereas combat drones are usefull to kill the rats that constantly buzz around you annoying the hell out of you.

Do a search for Haladas mining guide, it is in this forum. Mining drones do let you get more ore, as long as you have good skills.
Anyway, check the guide out. it is a great guide.

Mining drones become "worth it" when you get drone interfacing up there and can use T2 mining drones and outfit a "max mining" hulk instead of a "tank hulk" with 2 drone rigs. At that point the drones become about equivalent to an extra half strip miner, maybe a little bit more.
You do still need to micro manage them but at that point you're also paying attention to the amount of ore left in each roid.
No I don't have these skills, but I've seen the effect with someone who did. It makes a difference.

if you train up your drones and use a drone mining augmentor - they bring in the equivalence between a hulk and a covetor.
With skills you can fit a full 0.0 tank and max yield hulk with one augmentor and no cpu implants.
