The Gallente Dream

Hi there, i'm having a question about crosstraining, was wondering if anybody could give me some advice...
You see, my char has started out as a minnie, which i love for PvP in the smaller/faster ships, but for the bigger ones i've started training gallente a few months ago.
However, now that i'm finally flying a dominix, i'm rather dissapointed, i mean, the tank is great and all but whenever i send in the drones i just dont get a combat feeling out of it, no lasers mining away hulls and plates, no torps the size of pickups flying around, just little space invader-like thingies going pew-pew
Now, you could say that seeing as i have a minmatar base why dont i continue minnie, i've thought of it myself, but minnie ships just dont fit me with their nerfed large turrets and ugly appearance (sorry all you minnie-BS lovers)
So now comes the big question, should i stay gallente and start flying a mega or a hyper for some less drone-relaince, or is it worth it (damage/tank/speed wise) to crosstrain either amarr or in an extreme case caldari (not too fond of these since i've always flew armor tanked ships, minnie ones included) ships?

gallente = up close melt your face dps and can mount good armor tanks +ships are fairly speedy
Amarr = slap as many of the biggest guns and the thickest armor plates on as possible and go blow people the **** up
pick one

I choose that one and have never regretted it

I've always thought of the mega as the prettiest bs in game, so if you are already in Gal bs, i'd go with that.
style over substance anyday. If you're gonna kill ****, you may as well look good doing it.

A minor correction, but worth noting: You wont be shield tanking Caldari ships in PVP, for the most part. There's exceptions, of course, but large in part, you'll either buffer tank the armor or depend on ECM. Understand that before you dis include Caldari on the basis of no shield skills.
That being said, you need to be a little bit more specific about where your priorities lay. I don't have enough information to make an educated suggestion. Do your priorities lay only in Battleship-class boats? If not, you might want to take a good look at the races' Recons, HACs, and Battlecruisers. Each race has a few gems. ---

Just for the record, if style is more important than substance, then there is no better battleship than the armageddon.

I'm afraid I have to agree wholeheartedly with this, even though I'm way too pragmatic to choose a ship for looks. ---

I'm also a gallente thinking seriously of cross training amarr, mainly for T2 cruisers and smaller though. I'm thinking it'll turn out well since my strengths in cap skills, drones, armor etc will be be good while my lacking gunnery won't be as big a problem for small hull amarr T2.

I'm probably the only person that thinks the scorpion looks the best.
My favorite part was the skill remark. That made my day |

Tempest... just makes you want to shout "Yarr!!" over teamspeak.

I sincerely thing the Typhoon is the coolest looking BS there is, and the maelstrom isn't far behind.
However. Why don't you try blasterthron? Or even Hyperion. I hate the dominix myself, but the other two gallente BS are seriously cool.
Keep on crosstraining gall-min, I do it myself (with a gall base tho) and I'm looking forward to the Angel Cartel ships and the Vindicator (sexy stuff).

Blaster-mega: Awesome buffer tank. Excellent tracking. Monster dps at point-blank range. Gank-geddon: Awesome buffer tank. Good tracking (lasers). High dps at short range, good dps with scorch.
How close do you need your targets to be? If you spend most of your time humping enemy ships, Mega is the way to go. If they often appear just inside tackle range or further away go with the 'geddon. "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" |

I think the 'geddon steals it. The price is oh so sexy for all that damage and tankage. I'd say it's the best BS in it's tier and even beats some of the tier 2's. Awesome ships at great price. Has to match the mega on looks too.

I like the Geddon, and tbh my favorite is the EoM version of the geddon from Gone Berserk. Yeah yeah, you can't actually get one, and of course it's impossible to find a can of paint in space. Warp technology? Got it. Advanced guns and shields? Of course. Clone technology so we live forever? Easy. But a bucket of paint to change your ship's color? Dream on.
Apparently the EoM cult has the only black paint in all of space, and they aren't sharing. But at least I can dream.

I'm a fan of the Tempest too. Well, after watching Clear Skys anyway
Close runners up would have to be the Raven and Maelstrom.

I've been flying in nothing but RR fleets for the last 2 months with my Mega and I can't wait till I can do it in a Geddon. They are very similar ships and I like the Mega better for most smaller fleet type stuff but nothing beats the Geddon for RR-do-not-leave-the-gate type ownage.

Maybe one day Khanid Innovations will come up with a Tier 2 Armageddon Hull ship and we'll get something close. The Damnation colours look almost as good as the EoM, but not quite.

I say, fly both
Learn to fly gall, and than u are so close to fly amarr, cross train is soo easy by them: armor tank drone skills half of the gunnery skills
Learn-learn-learn, till u can fly properly the Ishtar, Curse, Zealot, Domi, Geddon, Mega, Apoc. These are the sips of the men. Maybe there are more good amarr t2 cruisers, but Domi (spidertank hellcat) and Mega (the mean machine) are worth to train them.

actually at the moment its:
gallente = biggest guns and lots of place > melt stuff at under 10km
amarr = biggest guns and lots of plate > melt stuff out to 30km ish
both can nano ok, both have good other ships in line up.
active armour tanking just doesn't work at the moment except maybe the hyperion in skilled hands but thats still a big maybe. thank god the devs saw sense and didn't change the deimos......
and yeah, tempest does look yarr but is the one BS in need of a buff now.

Try an active tanked domi for some small scale pvp some time, it nicely compliments the domi's strength in smaller fights. Just bring lots of cap boosters.

true, but freeing up grid by using plates instead of reppers means lots more neuts / nos / guns in high on domni will mean you can wage cap warfare much, much quicker.

my feeling is
gallente - great damage up close - i.e. close to zero range - kill or be killed
amarr - very good damage at a bit of distance - i.e. 20km+ - great for camps and wanting to survive

The only imbalance i feel is that the megathron while fulfilling its role of being the ultimate close range dps ship, has an overly large tank while dishing out that dps making it full of winsauce.

Ty for the suggestions all, i think i'll stick with small minnie ships. (Assault Ship, Inty, maybe their Recon, else a curse) And crosstrain amarr for the sexy Geddon.
In the end, drone skills and Armor tanking/plating skills work fine on any ship with a decent bay and a good armor base, so i guess the only time i've wasted is speccing for railguns/blasters, but those might come in handy if gallente ever switches to Flavour of the month.
once again thanks for the tips and fly safe.
