Hey guys...
Why doesn't my EVE-Mon update? Also I couldn't generate a new api key for at least 3 weeks now?
What's going on? I'm starting to feel a bit out of the loop by now...
Does eve-mon need any special ports open I might have blocked?

Dunno mine works fine.
Uninstall, d/l latest client, set it up from scratch.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

Sounds like a reinstall is in order for you 
AFAIK, it uses port 80 so unless you've blocked your web browser port, it won't stop working for that reason.

mine works fine too you checked your firewall aint blocking it or something simple?

EDIT: I also reinstalled EVEMon previously, but as obviously something seems to be wrong with my API key.... At least I can confirm that EVEMon worked prior to today's patch [just in case this could be the reason or something..] |

I keep getting the following: GetCharacterList() issue: EVE backend database temporarily disabled.' error when trying to update my chars, ever since they took the website down earlier today.
What's up with that?

It's not unusual for them to take down the API services after a patch for a short time to ensure everything is working correctly. That would explain why it hasn't been working today. Why it hasn't been working for you for 3 weeks... no idea. Have you been only trying right after DT or something?

I just tried it (again) some seconds ago , well I guess I will wait until tomorrow or so and just hope it's some temporary thing that will resolve itself within the next 24 hours.. |

Same problem but only started today. Trying to update the API Key info results in it telling me either my user ID or API key is incorrect.
By the way, even though it says it failed to generate a new key at eve-o just go back and refresh the page and it does generate a new one.

Update:
API didn't get generated 5 minutes ago, but worked just NOW...
Entered new API info into new installation of Eve-Mon, it even let me choose my Character from the Server (suggesting that the connection is fine?)
Once I press OK I only get the "blinking Circle" in Eve-Mon.
Where is the Eve-Mon chached characters kept? It's not in the eve-mon folder or my documents either... Yet when I reinstalled I still had a cached version of my character in front of me?
Nothing is ever easy, is it...

Sadly the newly generated API key also just gives me a "false ID/API key message" - I will just continue and play around a bit...
EDIT: should also have added that I do see my characters in EVEMon, but as McBrite they are cached only.. - The cached information can be found in your Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\EVEMon\cache folder (I don't know if the folder structure is correct this way, as I just freely translated my folder structure - but it should give you a hint were to look)

I just reactivated my accounts yesterday on a new computer and also reinstalled evemon.
On my first account I got the please try again message and just clicked my browser refresh button several times until I got a key. When I entered this in evemon I was able to select the character to add and all is well.
On my second account I had to do the same thing but when I entered the key in evemon I got an error message from evemon and was not able to select a character. I tried a few more times, but didn't get it to work for me.
I have no idea what, but something sure seems flaky!

Mine's dead as of today's patch - so I'd guess it's just a temporary eve-mon problem waiting patching.
They're generally excellent at quick patches, so I wouldn't be fussed. ----------------

Thanks for the hint, found it no problem... It solved it for me...
So everybody that is still experiencing similar problems, try this:
1. Make sure you know your new key (which most of you will have generated by now), or generate a new one if you want to make sure that isn't the problem... 2. Close EveMon and deinstall Evemon 3. DELETE THE CACHE FILES (look in the quote to find location, it's in documents and settings/"user"/application data/ 4. Reinstall Evemon which should come up empty and without any cached chars... 5. Use your new/current key to add your character. If you can't choose one of your 3 chars and get an error instead, you will have a DIFFERENT problem from the one we seemed to have solved here... 6. Your EveMon should be working now...

EDIT: It still says "cached" but can't be... Otherwise there is no way for it to know the skill I'm training and it DOES know... It also pulled my correct implants and so on...

Your problem is definitely different seeing as you had it before today. Having tried your resolution, at adding a new character i get:

Yep, no problems today. Had to wipe my eve-mon cache and re-add all of my character APIs... ... ugh, dat were werk I dun wanna have ta do alla time. :(

guys remember that you have to wait a while before the API Key works:

Which means you get a error message that the key isn't working if you try it earlier.
Additionally all data in the API is cached which means EVEMon is only updating every hour, don't remember how it is in EVEMon atm. but if EVEMon is showing the correct Skill in training and the correct time for it the connection to the API should be fine.
If you checked all the points and EVEMon is still not running try if you can access your Character page directly:
api.eve-online.com/account/Characters.xml.aspx?userID=[your user ID]&apiKey=[your api key]
and if you get a error here too - I think some of you do, please file a bug report so we have a record about the bug and can test the specific issues.

this looks totally fine, document tree is how it should be.
The issue seems to be solved and I'll try that this topic gets moved into the technology forum.
