Edited by: Wolf VonNiflheim on 01/07/2008 21:19:26 Hello all,
I have a problem that I can't get my head around.
I just installed Eve premium (EVE_Premium_Setup_58188.exe) on a new Linux install with Wine (1.1.0) and I keep getting these looping error messages at the splash screen:
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {9a5ea990-3034-4d6f-9128-01f3c61022bc} not registered err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {9a5ea990-3034-4d6f-9128-01f3c61022bc} could be created for context 0x1 err:module:import_dll Library DNSAPI.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\\EVE\\bin\\vivoxsdk.dll") not found err:module:import_dll Library vivoxsdk.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\\EVE\\bin\\audio.dll") not found .....
After a while the client exits.
Interestingly my other box has been running EVE in Wine for about 4 months now without any problems.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Wolf

Check the basics:
Just in case, Flush your .wine folder (delete, move) and run winecfg to set your settings fresh again.
- Install a recent wine (currently 1.1)
- Check that you have 3d working, in a terminal do: glxinfo | grep direct
- Install msttcorefonts and copy them cp /usr/share/fonts/truetype/msttcorefonts/* ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/windows/fonts
- Set OffscreenRenderingMode to fbo in wine registry by changing the following direct3d setting in ~/.wine/user.reg
[Software\\Wine\\Direct3D] "DirectDrawRenderer"="opengl" "OffscreenRenderingMode"="fbo" "PixelShaderMode"="enabled" "VertexShaderMode"="hardware" "VideoMemorySize"="256" - Download the eve windows premium client, run the installer, don't start the game yet.
In a terminal change to the installed folder cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/CCP/EVE/bin and do wine RedistD3DXOnly.exe
- I'm running EVE with audio hardware acceleration disabled ingame (and the setting in winecfg is set to "Full", not "emulation"; samplerate is set to 44100.
- In game choose to use premium content or not, shadows must be disabled. If you see the lights black, turn on HDR then off, i did it a couple of times and it fixed the issue.
Known issues: Solar system minimaps (F11) corrupted, also solar system icon in agent missions. When not using premium content; background "space" might get corrupted in a constellation, after changing many constellations (many jumps travel). Maybe disabling cache helps?
Tip: avoid the ts2 (linux) oss nonsense, just download the windows version and run it with wine! -- Running Eve Online Premium with Ubuntu 8.04 |

Thanks for the advice, but that was already in place :)
Anyway, I found the solution. I'm going to post it here in case someone runs into this problem.
The problem lies with the dnsapi.dll emulation in Wine-1.1.0. EVE loads vivoxsdk.dll which seems to have something to do with voice chat. It looks like something happened in Wine 1.1.0 that causes vivoxsdk.dll to fail to load dnsapi.dll.
I solved it by getting a dnsapi.dll from an existing windows install, and overriding the dll in winecfg. Worked like a charm.
Regards,
Wolf
