OK, so I was just having a look at the MSN homepage, as you do, and came across this article about the best game ever. And you know what he picked? Well from the title you have probably guessed it, Elite.
Now as Elite was the basis for EVE (young devs [Reynir especially] loved it etc) I thought that it deserved a mention. BUT, and it's a reasonably sized but, right at the end this freelance writer said that it would be great to have an online version....nowhere has he mentioned EVE. Shame on him.
Thoughts anyone? Should we contact him and let him know what he is missing? Or leave him to stew in his own ignorance

If he loved Elite, he should play Vendetta Online instead...
How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming

Forgive my lack of knowledge, but what is this Vendetta Online that you speak of?

EvE is not like an online version of Elite. The combat system simply isn't there, and Elite was first and foremost a space combat simulator.
I'd love an elite-type MMO, where how you fly your ship would be the main factor in how good you do in the game.

It's a real Elite clone MMO but with nowhere near the user base of EVE...

I disagree with this I'm afraid.
Elite was first and foremost an open-ended space trading game. There was combat involved but there was also trading in different systems, missions (although limited) and standing issues which if they got too low left you open to be attacked by the police force. Although you were stuck with the mighty Cobra MkII, you did have the option to change the fitting and there was also mining and ores as well - all this sound familiar?
I'm afraid I don't understand the space combat simulator part - I would liken that to Wing-Commnader, Prophecy etc but not to Elite.
I personally have always considered Eve a match for Elite.

Haha you big Elite carebear!
I see you never jumped galaxies, fitted cargo scoops and took on the Thargons for their precious Alien Items as an income!
Yarr! You're hexagonal ships are no match for my smartbombs!

I think it was Thargoids, and 8 sided ships.
Gotta love Elite :) I made deadly on 4 different versions, BBC, Speccy, C64 and Einstein(!)
A friend and I used to dream of what the perfect Elite would be, if only we could hcange ships.. etc.
then I found Eve. Dreams do come true! ;P

Youtube Unoffic Trailer...
Thats the first time I heard of VO. Am I the only one who sees this and thinks "That looks like a cross between a cartoon version of EVE and the same directing/editing/music of BSG?".
Its like if Eve was real than VO would be the sort of game a kid in a Jita station would be playing. Even the belt system seems the same as eve

The new Jumpgate game appears to be far more faithful to ELITE than EVE has ever been. I think there are parallels with EVE that are quire distinct, but the major features of EVE are pretty much uniqur to EVE in the genre.
