"Honor" and "Respect" and "Pirate" are mutually exclusive. Honor among thieves? Ok, to an extent. Honor between pirate and victim? Hardly. Honoring ransoms? That makes you a tax collector, not a pirate.
However you want to put it, honoring ransoms bring more meat on the table in the long run.

also, how is that internet-honour working out for you, z0de?
The mear fact that you seperate "your" internet based perception of honour and your physical corporal expression of such honour, just tells me that you truelly have no honour at all. This game is great for bringing out the truest depths of a mans inner conciouseness.

I like how you equate not honoring a ransom as a sign of intelligence (or lack thereof).
Carebears come and go. But more importantly, there are always new ones coming in.

No it doesn't. Ransoming a faction fit CNR for 300 mil, then killing it for 2 bil more brings more meat on the table in the long run. Please, there's no convincing me otherwise.

I have no illusions that you can be persuaded to give up your completely valid playstyle, but you would do well to think about this statement. Long term income != short term income. Ransoming a CNR and then killing him is an example of high short term income. Ransoming that CNR, then letting him go will make it a lot easier for you, and every other pirate, to get the next CNR to also pay a ransom. That way our long term income goes up.
Dishonoring ransoms isn't the best way to make friends in the pirate community, but then again I doubt that's what you're after.

While I am a fully gay pirate who has been known to WEAR ROUGE, I think you meant to say rogue. You say "rogue" and "pirate" like those are undesirable things? From your perspective, they are, because you're really not a pirate. You are a tax man. I am a pirate, and I do piratey things like being nasty, lowdown, dirty, and an all around NOT NICE PERSON.
Are you seeing the difference here? You are not a pirate. Stop saying you are, and things will fall into place.

True, I meant to say rogue. As for the rest of your post, you seem a bit uneased. Please, always remember that this is a game, and if you say you are a pirate in a game, who am I to argue. I'm just informing you that certain actions have a tendency of biting you in the ass further down the line.

Edited by: Mandi Mon on 03/07/2008 20:01:44 Hai. Ransom is money paid to free someone. In the real world of ransoming, terrists want ransom because the hostage (person) is worth nothing to them if destroyed. In eve, the hostage (ship), is worth something when destroyed. Blow that **** up, get the loot, get ransom if they're stupid enough to give it up.

Your math intrigues me. Care to show how you arrived at this magical number of 90% with the rest of the class?
Here's another stat for you. 90% of statistics are BS and made up while typing your post.
If you pay ransom to a respectable, well-known pirate corp with a policy of honouring ransoms, I practically guarantee you will be let go so long as you're polite and timely with the ISK. If you aren't, mail the CEO. Doubt that'll work in this case but tough luck I suppose. Learn from the experience but don't let it put you off ransoms altogether. Apart from that, sorry you encountered a group that doesn't honour their ransoms though I suppose there's no hard and fast "piracy rule" that says we have to, it's a choice each pirate makes themselves or as a corp. ______

I honor my ransoms though, but what do you care. You are going to end up finding out the hard way or not at all, that I can or cannot be trusted. _________________

z0de has no internet-honour. It's not about honour even if we use the term "honouring ransoms". It's about brains and playing this game like you're in it for the long haul. z0de has that in spades which is why he's a Bastard.
Checked a post out on VETO's website recently where a guy being ransomed mistyped the ransom amount when transferring isk and overpaid by 100mil. VETO gave it back. Any of the nubbins in the past couple "pirate" fail threads want to call them out on that? How about some snide "internet-honour" comments for them?
I won't. They're smart and know what they're about. Observe and learn.
Disappointing to see the number of recent threads describing what some of these new "pirate" corps are about and how silly they sound when they try to rationalize it. I'd just repeat what some others have said: There are more than a few pirate corps that know what they are about and don't apply sophistry to the ransoming process.
Not going to get too worked up about the "pirate" nubbins though. Corps like these won't typically last and quality pirate corps are noting who they are and won't likely have anything to do with their members when their corps crumble.

What Ard said, would have said similar myself had I seen your comment before him. Honouring ransoms worked well for us, we get regular mission runners who know how to play and its become quiet the sport to catch them. It is a shame when they just block or logofski, it almost guarantees a ship loss and a podding.
The squelching sound is nice though.
