All the games that i play have you level up on skills... you do so much damage your hybrid weapon level increases... Or just buy and fly but then increase the cost of the ship and fittings... for the capture titan thread below says that you could just board titan... ok but there are handfull of pilots that can fly one and thre already flying one anyone probably... so make it a buy and fly...just have them become a level...

Holy he11... how many WoW noobs are gonna come on here and beg for grinding?
THIS THREAD is the most recent, so go join your Alliance buddies over there. ---
Don't take my rantings personally. I'm more than likely arguing the point at hand, and anyone playing "Devil's Advocate" will feel my wrath. |

Because everyone would just buy a BS straight away and then whine like mad because they lost it.
The ideas behind the skill systems is: It helps you learn how to pilot a ship and the pitfalls before you fly a big one. It forces you to get at least the basic skills you need to fly it properly. It provides a buffer while you earn the isk to buy it. It gives you time to learn how to fit a ship properly.
The best reason: It annoys the hell out of the kids and keeps the maturity level in Eve at a reasonable level

Yay. At least the EVE forum stays true to the 'harsh world' concept.

Edited by: Mithrandere on 07/07/2008 12:36:18 Although i disagree on principle there is a cornel of an idea here:
1) Skills is what makes eve so fiendishly addictive - so dont bin them -- but 2) Perhaps a review of how long it takes to get skills might make some things happen a little quicker -- I stress the PERHAPS 3) I think (IF it was easy enough to programme), why not have some kind of fuction whereby skills are enhanced fractionally accordign to what you are up to in game (like faction standing level increases), up to L5?
--FYI, before all you EVE diehards start slating me I dont play any other MMO's i am EVE through and through--

Just... no.
The skill system in EVE is just fine the way it is. It forces you to choose without forcing you to grind. You can play EVE hard-core or you can play casually, and both are perfectly valid, fun, and rewarding methods. This is not WoW where you have to spend many hours a week grinding just to get better at the game.
EVE has grind (ISK mainly); too much already in my view. Adding more just detracts from the unique appeal EVE has. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation or alliance, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... |
