Edited by: ceyriot on 04/07/2008 02:51:30 I'm going to be going into caps fairly soon. Now, seeing as money is NOT an issue here, which of these ships that I'm considering would you recommend I go into first? (this is in a general perspective, as in how often I will fly it, what can it do etc etc)
Moros - nice DPS with drones I hear, but POS bashing is fairly boring. Naglfar - split weapons isn't pretty, but I'm closer to this than a Moros. Thanatos - haven't heard much, its the only carrier to use apparantly though. Nidhoggur - Bid 'ole field medic? Y/N? Again, closer to this than a Thanatos.
I can also go Caldari, haven't really thought about it - and Amarr is out of the picture completely.
Please don't troll, flame, post badly or fail. Mods will hurt you.

Moros, good for POS bashing and station hugging Thanatos, good for suport. Naglfar... just don't. Really, it's far and away the worst dread. A Rev is damn near worth 2 of these. Niddy, it's ok if you like repping pos's. Otherwise, get a Thanny.
Well, IMO.

All things considered, thanatos. Minmatar caps are awful (well, the nag at least). But, this is almost required to say:
If you're asking this question, you shouldn't be flying capitals.
That said, carriers are generally more useful (Dreads only bash POS... and the moros station camps, occasionally). The minmatar carrier is o-kay, but it's primaried over the other ones due to the poor personal tank. The minmatar dread is awful, endof. But then again, it's
F R E A K I N '
V E R T I C A L
The thanatos will be the most useful and best SP investment.

The Killer8 vid was AWSOMNESS and we had great l0lz with it 2 years ago or so... since then however they made all carriers same in fighter dps (I think anyway) so that part of it no longer applies. Arguably my opinions represent to an extent the opinions of my alliance and in particular circumstances give rise to a valid "casus belli" claim. |

What is wrong with the Naglfar, exactly? From what EFT tells me, it's the second most damaging dread, can fit a very decent tank, and gets partial control over its damage types. The only downside I can see is the fact that you have to train for two capital weapons to use it fully.

weakest tank split weapons = you have to fit two kinds of damage mod citadel torps get popped by smartbombing super caps lowest damage strange slot config lowest base cap
that kind of thing

Empirically speaking (from real POS killmails for instance), a Rev is worth about 1.6-2.0 Nags. What's funny is that the Nag requires far more SP than the Rev for far less results.
It's literally more bang for your buck (SP wise) to train up Amarr BS 5/Amarr Dread 5 from Amarr Frig 0 than going for the Nag from T2 Lg weapons and Matari BS 5.
And on top of that, you get access to the overwhelmingly best BS lineup in the game. How is that recommendation not pure win?

Depends on the type of POS you shoot IMHO. If say you ransom unhardened lowsec mining POS the Naglfar being able to vary its damage type the most will be the most damaging dread most of the time...
For omnitanked deathstars in laggy conditions the no reload the Revelation seems to be it (why don't they introduce a "resume fire after reload" setting?), but more because of the sad state of the game than the ships inherent qualities... -- Coming to you, Assault Ships fix, by the people saying that the Gallente Recons are fine. |

Nice theory. Pity it doesn't pan out in practice. :)

Well, the part about laggy situations is probably right - no reloading is VERY nice, but I have amarr frig a 0 and no wish to train, I just don't like the idea of my weapons using loads of cap.

With good energy skills and controlled bursts, you will find that lasers take as much cap as hybrids. In the BS/Capital line, cap stability is frighteningly easy to attain while still doing a lot of dps at good ranges. As it stands, the only reason not to train amarr battleships to 5 is because you already have a different battleship race fully T2 trained. But when it comes to capital ships and the high price of the skillbooks - its really worth picking the correct race - and that race is Amarr. ----
