Funny enough, my employers has been very interested in the workings of a real virtual world with politics, military and economics.
I only list it under interests, so its not the focus of my CV, but it gets a lot of positive feedback. I think maybe its your own preconceptions of who a typical Eve player is that gets in the way of your understanding.
I would not list WoW though.

lmao..
What do you do in your spare time? Well during my spare time I play an MMORPG called EVE Online, activities usually include;
- Blowing up spaceships
- Generally causing havoc for any other player playing the game unless they are in my megacorp/alliance
- Using my social abilities to thier maximum by scamming other players by the billions
- Killmail whoring and waving my e-peen around when I get shaweet kill
- Spamming EVE-O forums, and giving the developers grief if the downtime is more than 1 hour
- And we MUST Worship Cribba

Looking good!
(P.S. This post is not referring directly to "your" activities Jim.)

Thanks for listing who you are. If you are interested in who I am, you need to get past the stereotypes.
Or maybe you think all Eve players are exactly the same, in which case you need to boost your IQ a bit.

Did you take that offensive by any chance??. As to attack my IQ??, I got an IQ of 112 (on facebook!!!!), It's not great, but it's not exactly mind numbing is it??
It was a joke, not attacking "YOU" in any way, nor any other EVE player, and if you must know, yes it does reflect my character/past characters
P.S. It's fun watching the same post grow isn't it?

TBH i kinda agree with both sides. Due to the fact there is a lot more depth to Eve than games typically do, it is something which a potential employer may find advantagous.
However whilst i dont (try not to) hold prejudices against fellow gamers many, many people do. However i think its simply a time based thing. Its about what is seen as socially acceptable. 5-10 years ago talking to someone you didnt know through the internet was thought of a very sad, totally nerd depraved state. However now many people have entire groups of people they would consider friends/associates that they have only ever spoke to through the internet, and thats considered perfectly normal.
Facebook when i first encountered it was something which (imho) overly-wealthy toff students used to communicate. Looking at it now, everyone and their mother (usually quite literally) has an account, and if you dont have a facebook account your almost a social outcast.
I think its a matter of time, until people who played computer game both on and offline in their youth get into the positions of power within jobs that things such as online gaming be considered a potentially positive thing. At this point doing these things may be of benefit but until then, i wont be putting it on my CV, unless its a job specifically where it would be an advantage (something in the gaming industry)

Good post, but I think gamers should have nothing to be ashamed over in this day and age, and I dont care if some employer reads too much into it and think I am someone I am not and I dont get a job because of it. Its not the kind of person I would want to work for anyway. There are tons of jobs within IT anyway, we can pick and choose.
Not going to hide what I like to do just to get a job. I dont need to, and I like who I am. They are lucky to get me to be honest. Im good at what I do. So if they choose to not pick me based on the fact that I play Eve, its their loss and their stupidity.
If they dont pick me because I have the wrong personality or the wrong skills, thats fine, but because I play Eve? I find that moronic.

Edited by: Ilska on 05/07/2008 15:01:09 facebook? i quit that long ago.. too much annoying stuff you have to go in and manually remove on a daily basis..
who needs it? real life friends are easy to keep in touch with anyway, if you really want to. it's friends you meet online that are harder to keep, as games come and go, and ppl get alts etc.
avatars united is all i need..
besides, it's really cool to see avatars from other MMO's. helps one get an inside look at a game one might potentially be willing to play (besides EVE, i doubt it, but we get to show the wow folks what a titan looks like)
