Edited by: Micheal JackSan on 05/07/2008 05:50:56 Hey, i'm a new player, who is interested in doing some high-sec trading. I placed some buy orders for large amounts of NPC goods, and low and behold, the prices were very elastic, this is cool. I asked how I could lower the price, the response 'wait' and 'wait till the server resets'. While somewhat realistic, it seemed counterintuitive to me. I presumed I could lower the price by finding what the NPC station wanted to consume, and supplying it. For instance, if I want lots of cheap spirits, I simply buy lots of water and wheat and sell it to the npc.
This increases the price of water and wheat, decreases the purchase price of that station for the two goods, and decreases the station sell price for spirits. It encourages trade, gives people more math to do, and doesn't seem to cause inflation or anything nasty like that.
Edit: Also, if prices really do lower at server reset, do they really need to? The servers seem to handle transactions resulting in increasing prices... And doesn't broadcasting the time when prices are going to drop encourage players to snipe buy orders by a penny at the last second? If NPC trading were ever competitive, wouldn't this be the only way to fly?

/bump/ Does no one else find this interesting? I like trading between npc stations, but it's all so static right now. Has this been talked about before? Or is it just not interesting to anyone else?

It just seems a bit unnecessary - while you do need to do quite a bit more research to pull it off you can make much more ISK by playing the actual (player-driven) markets.
I know when I was a rookie I made most of my ISK for a while buying high-value, low-volume minerals in lowsec at bargain prices and hauling them in a fast frig (hard to catch at gatecamps) to trade hubs. I went from there to mining, but I'm back to doing quite a bit of trading again by moving ore around in a freighter. It's more dynamic, more profitable, and puts you into the world much more than NPC trading.

Conversly, releasing BPOs for some of the commodities would be pretty cool.

CCP uses these commodites as an isk sink.

How are npc goods an ISK sink? They strictly insert isk into the market.
Seeing bpos for trade goods would also be interesting...
And yes, i'm aware there are more 'profitable' ways I could be trading. It's not really my point to make NPC more profitable, (although that could be a side effect, I don't think it should compete with player markets) I think my suggestion would make NPC trading actually more interesting.

I don't see WHY ccp should encourage it, bad things about npc goods trading: 1. It creates isk from nowhere, ergo inflation 2. It's npc driven 3. IT does not affect other players 4. It's safe from real market price changes.
It is good for starters, but for real money, move to player-stuff trading. ---
