I hope its an OPTIONAL upgrade that I can choose to never install, unless of course with ambulation I can pop a ship, capture the capsule and throw it in my brig for interrogation at a later time of my choosing

As far as I know, CCP have not announced any possible dates yet. My GUESS is june or november 2009. This based on they shifted manning from the Trinity to Ambulation upon its completeition. But you know, it can be as late as 1010 too. CCP is a company that usually take their time to ensure the best quality possible.

They always said Ambulation will be a totally independant and seperate feature. You won't need to install it and you won't need to use it if you don't want to!
Even more so, that Ambulation will be run on a complete seperate server environment, so it won't have any impact on the Tranquility cluster whatsoever!
That's why all the Nay-sayers are such noobs and morons as they fail to read nor comprehent the clear information that has been given since the beginning. They are just plain trolling about something they clearly know nothing nor understand anything about and make unfounded assumptions based on nothing!
I am also one of the people looking forward to 'Ambulation'! As it will be awesome to walk around in Space Stations and talk to people in their real animated avatars! Even more so to be able to walk to the Space Dock and get a real feeling about the sheer size of your Ship :) Will be an awesome sight!
I am one of those old SWG vets that miss SWG pre-CU / Pre-NGE and I think Ambulation can give a bit of that feeling back. As there is no other decent Sci-Fi MMO around atm :(

I think what concerns a lot of people is whether the sheer amount of work poured into this is spent in the best interest of the game. I realize much of this stuff will be the core of that there White Wolf MMO but still, that's a lot of man hours gone to, basically, fluff.
And to anyone who doesn't think something like this is a huge undertaking, look at today's budgets for computer games. They spend millions of dollars, and put hundreds of people at work for several years for five-six hours of play time.

If CCP didn't know what they were doing, EVE wouldn't have lasted this long. Have a little faith. __________________________

It's a complete different team working on this. So the same amount of people who were working on EVE itself before Ambulation are still working there. You still got Trinity? You still got Revelations? You still got Empyrean Age?
So I don't see the problem. 'Ambulation' will only make EVE stronger and more complete.
I am also looking forward to the idea of Planetary flight. Being able to fly over planet surfaces.
All these things will open up more gameplay possibilities within the EVE universe.
Cheers

CCP and EVE is about evolution. ItĘs the only game that has remain true to itĘs goal and pupose, itĘs the only game that delivered more then 80% of their promises. ItĘs also the only game that no one can deny as a masterpiece. Games like WOW and EQ2 will one day become a cute memory while EVE will be opening the Jovian space and EVE gate to Earth.
I donĘt know why some people are against ambulation but for me, itĘs the right step in the right direction. ItĘs one more layer of depth added to an already amazing game. ItĘs a chance to make EVE more open and welcome for new players and non-combat oriented people. All this will ensure that your game survives a few extra years.
The people crying about Ambulation will be the first one to cry when EVE finaly lay to rest.

This is pure win, +1
Can't wait for ambulation, personally. All these failtrolls moaning about ambulation . . . if you don't like the way the game is headed, quit! It's a different team working on ambulation, and between infiniband [yes I know that's soon[TM]] and adding more, ambulation-dedicated nodes, it's benefits will far outstrip the flaws. Besides, the money generated from new blood that join because of ambulation will hopefully result in server improvements.
For me, ambulation is all about the spirit of EVE. What other developer would do something like this so long into a game's lifespan? It shows that EVE has oceans of potential waiting to be fulfilled.

The aspect of them openning the jove space and anything earthly like proves to be interesting indeed, to date astronomers have identified well over 300 extra-solar planets around other stars and have also been able to analyze their atmospheres to an extent. They however havent been able to find moons around said planets. Once they do however it will possibly open up a whole new region that is real-life based in both distance and astronomical-body composition. I personally wouldnt mind hoping through a jump-gate anchored somewhere between saturn and jupiter and poppin into Gliese 186 near the supposedly "habitable" planet.

I'm looking forward to ambulation.
No joke.
However, when it is first released, I expect it will OVERWHELM folks with its complete and utter LACK of content....
....at BEST I expect the following: ---Ambulation Meeting rooms for Corp meetings ---Ambulation meeting with agents (more time for same result) ---Personal Apartments complete with a "Frozen Corpse Gallery"
..... so, with an almost complete lack of any meaningful content, how would ambulation be a "good" thing????
It gives Eve an entirely new aspect that can be expanded and further developed.
I'm thinking long term, and I'm looking forward to it.
Play nice while you butcher each other.
