Edited by: Auroura on 19/05/2004 22:31:16 I just got a Throax and I cannot keep as much ore in my cargo as I once did in my Mark II. So I jettison out a normal container and I continue to fill that while mining and keep it close by. Then someone will come slowly by and start looting my container. How can I prevent people from just stealing right in front of me? I tried buying some secure cargo containers but even the large containers done hold much at all.
Can I shoot at someone who is looting in front of me? I heard something about how the Security in some areas can kill people who steal from someone elseÆs container... IÆm not sure if that is true or not.
Any suggestions would be helpful. I donÆt always have someone to hull for me. So thatÆs not much of an option right now :(
Thanks

Edited by: Jonkai on 19/05/2004 22:43:33 Hi there,
Unfortunately you can not shoot them in high sec space, the huge secure cargo containers hold a fair whack and it saves people stealing it from under your nose.
Edit: missed out the secure bit :)

You can't do anything about orethiefs, except use secure containers.
The biggest containers, Giant Secure Containers, contain 3900 m3 and have a volume of 3000 m3.

Edited by: Helplessandlost on 20/05/2004 13:54:42 Remember to that you can't anchor in any system >=.8 nor can you secure the cans. If you leave a secure can in >= .8 it will pop <=.7 it will last indefinetly if anchored.

Mine in a 0.4 or lower system, then you can attack the ore thief. Here's the real issue is though...there are no common ore thieves in 0.4 and under...just people who'd best blow you up and then take the ore and your modules.
So if you want the ability to fight back for your ore w/o Concord showing up, it'll be in a place that the offender can shoot you first then take ore later.

I have an alt character trasined up for just this purpose. I log the alt on, go waste them, let the police kill the alt, and get him a new Kestrel.
It costs me a few hundredk, but its well worth it.
They serioulsy need to make huge secure containers hold more. At least enough to fill up one Indy loads worth.

Any ore mined to a non-secure container is not classed as yours till you get it docked. That is the risk you have to take using this method. But if you find a nice quiet system you should be ok, and at least you dont have to splash out on giant secure cans

It's a Sad day in EVE when you ore thieves steal from the noob.. Now we all know it is jettisoned material and fair game but geez at least have the class to do a lookup on someone and see if theyve only been playing for a few weeks..

I have found a diferent approach to others when dealing with this. As yet I have ZERO ore stolen from me in months and months of playing.
Its simple really, just find a system well away from highways and players. They do exist, there are plenty of them. I am currently based in a 0.8 with 0.5 1 jump away and a 0.4 & 0.3 two jumps away.
There is also another way to help put off n00bs from stealing your ore in secure space but I won't tell you that as its a trick (no its not an exploit). Its very simple and does actually work! Go think about how you can stop people from stealing from your unsecure cans, im sure you will find a way
Good luck and happy mining!

when i mine, i basically try to threaten them straight away, hopefully n00bs wont get wiser. Especially in my thorax, i release all my drones and hope their engine noise can at least scare the looter aweh :}.
for instance i said once to some dude who i thought was tryin to steal from me: " dude lissen, its this simple...touch my ore, i will kill you "
it did work, but he explained he was only there to mine himself, we had a few laffs, but being a paranoid mofo with ore, i still watched his ass sharpishly. :D

Edited by: Kellyl on 22/05/2004 17:11:46 You can name a can Call it Asteroid (Veldspar) And it will be safe
Hehehehe I love Haiku
Seriously tho, i've found this tactic quite useful dettering casual ore thiefs. Obviously if they have some sense they will see that it is a can, but sometimes they dont :P.

I would think that most people who look for cans have there scanners set to show only those cans in an area and not to show the asteroid itself.
Worth the try Would be funny when it works

Much easier. Why not just rename the can to 'Large Secure Container'. That way people can see its a container and its names secure. so would be less likely to even waste their time going closer. obviously if it looks liek a can it is named veldspar.. there is something amiss..

I've found a partail solution to this problem that seems to work pretty good if you are in a Thorax. I drift into the middle of the belt amidst all the rocks, generally behind a couple of good sized Veldspar. I release my various drones (I can control up to 8 atm). When an Indy comes near my can buried in the belt I just direct my drones to attack a rock between me and the Indy. This slows the Indy down even more and generally deters them. If done properly, even an Acolyte can impede an Indy in a belt! If they are mere opportunists, they will just warp away empty. The trick is to keep them more than 1500m away from your can by redirecting your drones to their path if they come at you from a different direction. Never target the indy, target rocks between the indy and you, preferably at a choke point that makes them divert around large Veld rocks to approach. If they still approach, just redirect them to the new path. Use your scanner to pick rocks to mine that are out of line of sight and leave the ones directly around you--they are your defense. It takes a couple minutes longer to bring your own indy in close, but at least it deters most theives I've seen.
Happy mining!
