Apart from bragging rights?
The obvious answer would be "to get an edge over the enemy", which makes them superbly unnecessary for mission-running since you have an plenty of edge with simple T2 items… heck, you don't even need a BS to have that edge.

And they're this expensive because nobody uses them, right ?
I mean, people are actuallty reprocessing them for materials all the time, right ?
They're slightly better, they're much rarer, therefore a lot more valuable.
The lesser the risk to use them, the higher the demand, the higher the price.
