This has been suggested a couple times by myself and a few other people, but why don't we make weapon upgrade modules like gyros mount to the actual weapon, like ammo does? Each weapon could have a specified number of bays, and if you're not using a bay for an upgrade it can be used for extra ammo. Of course any upgrade fitted to a weapon will affect only that weapon.
Simple idea I think, and it would help solve a number of problems relating to stacked upgrades and ammo reloading.

I think it's a wonderful idea but your asking now is for more slots aren't you?
If slots are created for weapons as well then all your low slots are now used for something else. Great, increase the ability of ships to mount even more items.
The idea of linking upgrades to specific weapons is sound but what are you trading off with your choices if you now have even more slots?
If you had four slots and four weapons, you link each device to it's corresponding weapon and your slots are used up. By giving weapons thier own upgrade slots you are in a sence just creating four extra low slots.
The addition of medium slots to some ships caused enough of an unbalance in the game AGAIN.

Yes, in a way. However low slots will then only be used for things like armor, or grid upgrades. If anything it will help ships stay alive longer, being able to equip armor modules and such while keeping the weapon upgrade modules effective to only 1 weapon each. Low slots can always be nerfed as well, if it turns out that ships are too powerful.
But thanks for the input =)

Well I do like this idea, actually wouldn't mind a more complex system for tinkering with our ships.
I find the current system rather simplistic. Being able to customize and fine tune every aspect of our ships would add alot I think. I don't neccessarily mean just add alot more slots and let people go buck wild with upgrades, but rather swapping integral componants for others that might trade performance in one area for better performance in another.
Ditch this simplistic system of high, low and medium slots. Break down all the systems on the ship into their own componants. There's already a system in place that determines a ships size and what it can hold, so slots aren't terribly neccessary, rather do it by what can actually be fit into the ship. In this way you can tinker with the ships agility, top end speed, accelleration etc by changing specific systems. Of course the more stuff added is going to leave less room for cargo or other systems.
I'd also change items slightly to have requirements for installing things into ships and requirements to use. A fighter pilot surely knows how to fly their ship, but probably don't know how to install the engines or power core. Would open up a whole business for mechanics to customize the basic ships and put them on the market.
Ok, probably never gonna happen. But I think it'd be pretty cool.

I think the idea of all these high slots and low slots and all that is silly, i would of prefered slots that could only have specific things.
You have a slot on your engines for afterburner or microwarp, you have a slot for a shield generator and then slots branching off of that for shield upgrades. You have 4 turret slots, lets say 2 of them can fit large weapons and the other 2 can only fit smaller weapons. You have a slot for 3 different layers of armour, etc. Main Everlasting Vendetta Veteran Member of the Stain Alliance |

I want a ship that transforms into a giant robot! and has fists that shoot out and go 'BOOM!' Do the fists count as a high slot or as ammo? And I want a cookie...give me my cookie! |
