hello,
why am i able to train the skill "assault ships" but cannot fly one of these ships?
it seems that the ship itself needs "... frigate V" but the skill doesnt. strikes me rather odd, seeing as you can't do other things with the skill.
did i overlook something? |

That's just the way tech two ships work. You need the t2 skill at 1-4 and the t1 ship skill at 5 to fly the ship. And also, you need assault frigates to fly hacs. Since hacs are so powerful and assault frigates are generally laughable, I'd suggest that yes, quite a few pilots have assault ships trained without ever stepping foot in an af

The skill is a non-racial skill, while the ships themselves are. Same goes with battlecruisers skills that you can train with only Spaceship Command IV, but to actually fly the ships you need one racial cruiser at level 3,

You need Assault to train Heavy Assault, but for the Huggin for example, you only need Frigate IV. So I'd assume thats why Frigate V isn't required for the skill itself.

This is what it really comes down to.
Instead of having a separate skills for Amarr Assault Ship, Caldari Assault Ships, Gallente Assault Ships and Minmatar Assault Ships, they have a single Assault Ships skill, then require the Racial Frigate Skill on each of the ships.
This pattern is held for all of the T2 ship classes: you need any level of the Tech 2 ship skill along with the Racial Ship skill at level 5. The exception being Jump Freighters which only require the racial ship skill to be level 4.

thanks for the replys, now i see more clearly.
though my flightboss seems to like AFs and seems to utilize them rather well (on behalf of "...AFs are useless".
